Brandenburg's mayor: Proud traditions and new projects!
In Brandenburg an der Havel on November 10, 2025, the autumn invitation to the ecumenical working group in the Saint-Bernhard meeting center was a complete success. Mayor Steffen Scheller was on site and met numerous representatives of the various parishes, including the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia (EKBO) and the Catholic Parish of the Holy Trinity. Prison chaplaincy was also strongly represented. It was a meeting that not only served to exchange ideas, but also to promote cultural projects, as everyone present was motivated to contribute their ideas.
A highlight of the evening was the announcement of the performance of the oratorio commemorating Max Josef Metzger, which will take place on November 17, 2025 in the Holy Trinity Parish Church. Under the direction of Karsten Drewing, a choir and a number of soloists will bring the oratorio to life. “It is a joy to see how religion and culture work together harmoniously,” said Scheller in his speech. Stephanie Knitter, the head of the cultural office, will act as a contact person to further support cultural events in the city.
Cultural promotion in view
Pastor Matthias Patzelt reported on the remarkable development of the project, in which a complete organ from a closed Catholic church was purchased for 25,000 euros. The Sparkassenstiftung is making an important contribution here by providing a total of 75,000 euros to 22 applicants for the autumn distribution. The mayor encouraged the participants to actively seek funding, as this represents an excellent opportunity to realize cultural projects.
Another topic that Steffen Scheller addressed was the federal program “Living Democracy!”, which supports municipalities that are committed to a democratic society. In this context, a “Partnership for Democracy” was created, in which Caritas plays a leading role. This initiative aims to help citizens to actively participate in democratic processes and get involved in their community.
Shaping the future
An exciting topic that was also discussed was the city anniversary in 2029, which celebrates 1,100 years of Brandenburg an der Havel. Those present discussed ideas on how to celebrate this anniversary with dignity. Among other things, the use of the pilgrimage route and the introduction of a pilgrim plaque were considered. Steffen Scheller was optimistic that many more innovative offers and highlights could be created for the anniversary in order to present the city in the best light.
Meanwhile, the gaming world should not be neglected either. Epic Games recently launched a new season of Fortnite titled “Absolute Doom” that offers fresh skins and items in the Item Shop. Players now have the option to purchase Battle Pass skins directly with V-Bucks, further increasing the enjoyment of the game. The current list of offers in the Item Shop is colorful and varied and reflects the latest trend, which will certainly appeal to young people in Brandenburg an der Havel. These include the Spacefarer Ariana Grande and the Iron Spider Bundle, which are currently very popular. Items can be purchased easily by logging into your Epic Games account and will be available immediately after the next login in the game.
The residents of Brandenburg an der Havel can therefore not only look forward to cultural highlights, but also to the ever-growing variety of leisure activities that the city offers.
