22,000 euros for the Islamic Community of Cottbus – A step towards integration!
On Tuesday, August 14, 2025, the Brandenburg Minister of Culture Dr. Manja Schüle handed over a funding notice for 22,108 euros to the Islamic Community of Cottbus. This support is an important step in promoting community work, education and intercultural encounters. Niederlausitz Current reports that Schüle emphasized the role of the community and the women's cultural association as essential for integration and dialogue in Cottbus.
The Islamic community, founded in 2021, now has 65 members and attracts several hundred believers to Friday prayers. The association is not only involved in religious education and youth work, but also in advisory services, charity projects and helping to organize city festivals. The Sugar Festival (Eid al-Fitr), which took place on Ernst-Mucke-Platz in March 2025, was particularly successful.
Promoting Muslim life in Brandenburg
The promotion of Muslim community life in Brandenburg amounts to around 100,000 euros annually. This initiative was launched to support the cultural life and integration of Muslims. The first mosque in Germany was built in 1915 in a prisoner of war camp in Wünsdorf. In the 1990s, a network of Muslim communities emerged, including in Potsdam, Cottbus and Frankfurt (Oder).
Social and cultural integration are therefore of great importance in order to promote understanding between cultures. The federal and state governments rely on dialogue and cooperation to strengthen cohesion in society.
Building spacing – an important topic
The topic contributes to ensuring that residents' quality of life does not suffer despite the densification of urban development. Taller buildings require larger distances, which must be taken into account when planning. It is therefore important to manage both the municipal planning process and the individual construction projects well.
Mathematical basics in planning
Mathematical principles are also important for planning construction projects. The integration, as in Mathsisfun explained, can help to calculate areas and volumes, which are crucial for construction planning. The total area can be determined by inserting 'cuts' or 'slices'. This method can also be applied to the planning of green spaces and public facilities to make the city more livable.
The Brandenburg measures to support integration and the observance of building distances show that well-thought-out planning for the future is needed in Cottbus. It remains exciting to see how the individual initiatives will further develop and contribute to creating harmonious coexistence.
