Cottbus presents 3D city models and smart ideas at the NdkK!
On October 11, 2025, the city of Cottbus/Chóśebuz will present its latest progress towards Smart City as part of the Night of Creative Minds (NdkK). The event will take place from 6:00 p.m. to midnight at 20 different locations and promises a varied program for all visitors.
The focus is on the introduction of the Open Data Portals (ODP) as well as a 3D city model, both of which will be launched in the town hall at Neumarkt 5. Interested citizens can immerse themselves interactively in the 3D BIM models and find out about the first specialist applications, which, in addition to the 3D city model, also include a construction site atlas. Here comes the concept of Building Information Modeling (BIM) which enables holistic planning and management of construction projects.
Interactive experiences and citizen participation
Anyone who is curious about the possibilities of digitalization will find what they are looking for at the “open town hall” – numerous offers await families here. These range from a cinema and creative workshops under the motto “Paint your smart city of Cottbus” to a live choir and a green screen.
Another highlight of the evening will be the collaboration with Cottbusverkehr, which will present solutions for faster tram journeys as well as real-time information for passengers. In this way, the city's mobility is not only made more effective but also more user-friendly, while citizen participation in planning processes is significantly promoted through the provision of municipal data.
The ODP will act as a central data hub. As the Fraunhofer Association emphasizes, the provision of open data plays an important role in the transformation to smart cities, as it enables both researchers and companies to develop innovative products and services.
Environmental awareness and resource management
Energy monitoring is carried out in over 70 municipal buildings, recording and controlling the consumption of electricity, water and heat as well as air quality. This enables efficient use of resources and is a step towards more sustainable urban development. The combination of digital technologies and intelligent resource management can not only improve the quality of life in the city, but also reduce emissions.
The city of Cottbus/Chóśebuz is therefore well on its way to becoming a pioneer in the field of smart cities by implementing digital solutions for everyday challenges. The innovative approach and citizen participation are a clear sign that both the needs of the residents and the pioneering technological achievements are optimally brought together here.
