Passengers in Cottbus: Over 70 bus trips on Monday are canceled!

Today, July 6, 2025, Cottbus passengers are faced with a tense situation. As Niederlausitz Aktuell reports, numerous bus connections will be canceled on Monday, July 7, 2025. This is due to illness-related absences among drivers, which have a significant impact on the entire bus service.

A total of around 15 lines are affected, including important city and regional connections. The situation is particularly critical on line 13, where over 20 departures will be eliminated. Numerous trips have also been canceled on other lines such as the EV1, which poses challenges for commuters in particular. For example, from Schmellwitz Anger there will be no departures at 4:32 a.m., 8:16 a.m. and 8:36 a.m., while several departures from the Puschkinpromenade town hall will be affected in the morning and evening.

Details of outages

The outages are not just limited to city lines. Regional connections, for example to Döbern, Forst, Guben and Spremberg, are also affected, which limits accessibility for many people. A total of over 70 bus trips in the region will have to be canceled, as rbb24 points out. The exact departure times and affected lines are not always clear, which is why it is strongly recommended that passengers find out about the current connections before starting their journey.

A look at the specific lines shows that line 10, for example, has to expect several cancellations from both the main station and Branitz Castle. Important journeys from Kolkwitz Klinikum are canceled on line 12, while line 14 is affected in the morning and evening hours.

Background of the problems

The situation is further exacerbated by disputes between Cottbusverkehr and the works council. As Radio Cottbus reports, there is an ongoing dispute over rosters and working hours, which resulted in an interim injunction before the Cottbus Labor Court. The court emphasized that Cottbusverkehr is not allowed to change the rosters without the consent of the works council. These internal conflicts appear to further impact the availability of drivers.

The Verdi union is calling for cooperation between the company and the works council in order to make the rosters future-proof. A planned meeting on Thursday could potentially bring about a solution, but negotiations in recent months have often failed to reach an agreement.

Passengers are asked to consider alternative transportation options or carpool well in advance. Current information can be accessed in the customer centers, online at www.cottbusverkehr.de and in the VBB app “Bus & Bahn”. The situation remains dynamic and how long the outages will last is currently unclear.
