Schönefeld celebrates 650 years with a big German-Mongolian festival!

On July 19, 2025, a midsummer festival will be celebrated in Schönefeld: the town's 650th anniversary and the German-Mongolian partnership festival are on the program. The celebrations start at 12 p.m. in Bayangol Park, where locals and guests can look forward to a cultural and community festival.

Schönefeld, which was mentioned in documents in 1375 as “Schonenvelde”, has had a partnership with the Bayangol district in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia since 1998. This long friendship will be the heart of the festival, which combines both cultural and social aspects. Mayor Christian Hentschel and the Mongolian ambassador Birvaa Mandakhbileg will open the official anniversary ceremony at 3 p.m.

A colorful program for everyone

The stage program is characterized by diversity and begins with the sensitive music by Mareile Gnep. The electronic duo Taiga brings Mongolian sounds combined with modern electronics to the stage. In the evening, the Swiss singer/songwriter Ay Wing will perform, followed by the Francisca Urio Band, who will set the mood with well-known hits and party music. Cheerleading performances and the children's philharmonic band, which offers music to join in, round off the program.

In addition, visitors can expect exciting insights into Mongolian culture. Highlights include traditional Mongolian wrestling, archery and the skill game of shagai, which requires skill and precision. Daycare centers, clubs and youth facilities offer numerous games, crafts and adventure activities for younger guests. From a culinary point of view, no wish remains unfulfilled - exotic specialties ensure enjoyment.

Festival market and traffic information

The festival market will present numerous activities by the police, fire brigade and BER Airport, which shows how diverse the Schönefeld community is. It is a place where traditions are preserved and new elements are integrated, which underlines the cultural diversity of the festival.

An important note for everyone coming by car: Rudower Chaussee will be completely closed to traffic on July 19th from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. However, residents and public transport have access to the Theodor-Fontane-Höfe car park.

Cultural festivals are not only an expression of tradition, but also promote social cohesion and the identity of a region. The celebrations in Schönefeld impressively show how the cultural roots, community and friendship between nations are interwoven. Schönefeld is not only celebrating its own anniversary, but also the diversity that the German-Mongolian partnership brings with it. A visit becomes an experience for visitors big and small!
