Heat wave reaches the highlight: Berlin and Brandenburg under heat warning!

The heat wave is increasing Germany, and the extreme sunlight is particularly noticeable in the western half of the country. Today, on July 2, 2025, the hottest day of the year is expected in Berlin and Brandenburg. In a period from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., the German Weather Service warns of temperatures up to 39 degrees and a high UV load that advises you to stay in the shade or wait until the sun no longer burns as much. During this time it is advisable to obviously treat yourself to a protective sunscreen and long clothes when it comes to outside.

Risk of forest fire at the record level

The situation in the woods is particularly alarming. In Brandenburg, the highest forest fire hazard level has already been proclaimed in almost all counties, which forces the fire brigade to a large contingent of various herds of fire. On Tuesday, the forces moved out to Elbe-Elster, where a village had to be evacuated at times. The situation there seems to be somewhat under control after the first successfully carried out extinguishing work, but three firefighters were injured. According to the forest fire protection officer Raimund Engel, the situation is extreme, especially in windy conditions. Other localities are also affected, such as the Bodetal near Thale in the Harz, where around 600 square meters are currently still burning and teams work on site to extinguish the flames.
Tagesschau reports that the risk of forest fire increases due to the heat, dryness and human misconduct, including in many federal countries, including Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia that rose to high to very high.

The locals help: cooling options in Berlin

In urban areas, however, there are also bright spots. The State Office for Health and Social Affairs in Berlin has published a list of cooling locations where people, in particular homeless or needy people, can find protection against the oppressive heat. The facilities include various churches such as the Lindenkirche in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, the Passion Church in Kreuzberg and the Johanneskirche in Reinickendorf, which invite you to relax and cool off. This is particularly important to offer people in the city a place of calm even while such extreme weather situations.
FOCUS Thunderstorms had reported what makes the weather conditions even more unpredictable.

A look into the future

Surprisingly, there could be a temperature fall under the 30-degree mark on Thursday, which should significantly lower the risk of forest fire. In the coming days, the first thunderstorms could ensure a certain relief, even if there is a risk of heavy heavy rain and hail. The weather services warn of violent thunderstorms, which will go hand in hand with heavy rain of 20 to 40 liters per square meter per hour and storm gusts of up to 105 km/h. According to the weather patrols, it is important to keep an eye on these developments, especially since many people want to spend benevolently outdoors.
ZDF The main causes of fires are what shows how important preventive measures are.

With all these challenges, it should be noted that this heat period is required to cooperate and mutual support. It is all the more important that extreme weather conditions play a role not only in the minds of people, but also in the planning and preparation of cities and municipalities.
