Susann Kirst: New deputy ensures a breath of fresh air in the district!
Elbe-Elster, Deutschland - On June 16, 2023, Susann Kirst in Falkenberg received her certificate of appointment as a deputy of the Elbe-Elster district, and an exciting era for the district goes into a new round. From October 1, 2023, she will take up her new position as the responsible department for order and district development. This decision was made on April 7, 2023, when she clearly prevailed against other applicants in the district council. The district administrator Christian Jaschinski expressed his congratulations on this occasion and underlined the important role that she will take on for the further development of the district in the future. The current incumbent, whose name was not mentioned, will retire on September 30, 2025.
Susann Kirst brings a wealth of experience that she has gained in various leading positions. As a graduate in business administration, she has worked in different functions since 2009, including head of the building authority and the health resort development in Bad Liebenwerda. Finally, she headed the structural development coordination office in the Liebenwerda community and then the auditing office of the Elbe-Elster district since 2021. She will now bring her extensive administrative experience into the new role as a deputy, which is definitely a profit for the district.

But there are fresh faces not only in the administration team. On June 9, 2025, elections for the European Parliament and the district council also took place. District election manager Dirk Gebhard reported a quiet process, even if the polling stations had to deal with longer waiting times. With a turnout of almost 70 percent, it was 10 percent higher than five years ago and thus also exceeded the national average.
The election results are exciting. The AfD received 35.1 percent, followed by the CDU and the new alliance Sarah Wagenknecht. The complete results of the district elections are as follows:

Around 1,900 volunteers made sure that everything went smoothly. Around 2,500 first voters were also represented in the approximately 85,000 eligible voters in the district. The municipal elections in context
The municipal elections in Germany are a central element of political participation. They include the elections for the parliamentary representations of the municipalities and the elections on district days. According to the Basic Law, these elections must be general, free and secret. The political part of the election goes far beyond party politics, since free voter communities and local initiatives are also actively striving for the votes of the citizens.
With a disproportionately high turnout in the district, it becomes clear that the population in Elbe-Elster is very interested in their political participation. The change at the head of the administration under the new deputy Susann Kirst will certainly bring a fresh wind and actively involve the citizens. At a time when local topics are increasingly in the foreground, it is important that the election workers and those eligible to vote show their commitment and thus contribute to the design of their habitat.
