Susann Kirst: New councilor brings a breath of fresh air to the district!
On June 16, 2023, Susann Kirst received her certificate of appointment as councilor for the Elbe-Elster district in Falkenberg, and with this an exciting era for the district enters a new round. From October 1, 2023, she will take up her new position as head of the department responsible for order and district development. This decision was made on April 7, 2023, when she clearly prevailed against other applicants in the district council. District Administrator Christian Jaschinski expressed his congratulations to her on this occasion and underlined the important role that she will play in the future development of the district. The current incumbent, whose name was not disclosed, will retire on September 30, 2025.
Susann Kirst brings with her a wealth of experience that she has gained in various management positions. As a qualified administrative economist, she has worked in various positions since 2009, including as head of the building authority and health resort development in Bad Liebenwerda. Most recently, she headed the structural development coordination office in the municipality of Liebenwerda and then, since 2021, the audit office of the Elbe-Elster district. She will now bring her extensive administrative experience to her new role as an alderman, which is definitely an asset for the district.

The local elections in context
Local elections in Germany are a central element of political participation. They include the elections for the parliamentary representatives of the municipalities as well as the elections for district councils. According to the Basic Law, these elections must be general, free and secret. The political part of the election goes far beyond party politics, as free voter communities and local initiatives are also actively seeking citizens' votes.
With a disproportionately high voter turnout in the district, it is clear that the population in Elbe-Elster is very interested in participating in politics. The change at the top of the administration under the new deputy Susann Kirst will certainly bring a breath of fresh air and actively involve citizens. At a time when local issues are becoming more and more important, it is important that election workers and those entitled to vote show their commitment and thus contribute to shaping their living space.
As the recent elections show, citizens are ready to support change and explore new paths. With this in mind, the Elbe-Elster district is looking forward to the future and the new era under Susann Kirst.
