Havelland in storm chaos: Fire departments in constant operation after storms!
A violent storm raged in the Havelland district on Thursday, June 26, 2025, triggering numerous police and fire service operations. The towns of Börnicke and Falkensee were particularly affected, where strong squalls and heavy rain caused countless damage. Streets were flooded while the fire brigade and THW, including supporters from Friesack, Wustermark and Brieselang, were in constant use to repair the damage Rathenow24 reported.
The Rathenow fire department had to deal with a variety of operations: from securing loose branches to removing trees that were in danger of falling. A traffic accident on the B273 was particularly dramatic, in which a 43-year-old driver collided with a fallen branch; the damage amounted to around 8,000 euros. In order to ensure safety on the streets, the emergency services were on duty around the clock, but the clean-up work will take several more days, as the Falkensee city administration announced in a press release.
Natural disasters and their consequences
The storm is part of a worrying development: natural disasters are increasing worldwide due to climate change and often lead to significant economic damage and injuries. In 2024, storms like Hurricane Helene in the USA were not isolated. Such events not only affect people directly on site, but also have far-reaching consequences, such as: Statista explained.
In recent years, Asia has suffered particularly badly from natural disasters, while Europe, such as Monaco and San Marino, is exposed to fewer risks. Nevertheless, more and more regions in this country are affected, and the storm in Havelland is another example of how unexpected and devastating weather phenomena can occur.
Mayor Heiko Richter and city fire chief Daniel Brose called on the population to be patient and considerate while the clean-up work continues. Over 100 emergency calls have now been received due to the storm, which illustrates the extent of the damage.
The next few days will remain a major challenge for the fire brigade and emergency services. The rapid change from heavy rain to storm caught many people by surprise and shows how important rapid organization and cooperation is. On the one hand there is the direct repair of the damage, on the other hand there is the need to restore the security of citizens.
