Ram Kalle in Rathenow: Where does the trusting hiker come from?

In Rathenow, the eye-catching ram Kalle caused a stir. The sweet goat, which is apparently homeless, is posing a mystery to the veterinary office and the city of Rathenow. Kalle was found at the end of June by a jogging couple in the forest near Rathenow and since then a certain detective game has broken out as to the origin of the animal. Where did Kalle come from and who is his original owner? Maz online reports that contact has been made with regional sheep farmers, but so far no one has been able to identify the buck.

Kalle, who was affectionately named by the finders' children, has shown himself to be trusting and friendly towards people and gets along well with dogs, cats and even chickens. Veterinarian Tobias Harms estimates that Kalle is around two years old. Not only is the buck healthy, but it also gives the impression that it was once raised by humans, possibly even bottle-fed. A discussion is raging on Facebook about what kind of animal Kalleist is, but Harms has clarified the question clearly: It is a ram.

Who is looking for Kalle?

The origin of Kalle remains a mystery. There is a possibility that he was exposed, as district spokesman Martin Kujawa suspects. However, no one can be really sure. Manuel Hirt, who rescued Kalle, describes him as a “great character,” which certainly helps convince a family that has expressed interest in taking Kalle in permanently. A sheep farmer has also shown interest in integrating Kalle into his herd. But the original owner has not yet come forward.

Support for animal-loving people in Rathenow

Amid the Kalle story, however, there is also worrying news from the region. The Havelland animal table in Rathenow urgently needs support as it has run into serious financial difficulties due to a massive drop in donations. Tino Rippler, board member of Tiertafel, reports that he pays the rent for the distribution point out of his own pocket. This facility is of great importance because it supports financially weak animal owners with food and other necessary items and thus provides an important social service to keep people and their animals together. Moz.de highlights that 122 pet owners and 319 pets currently benefit from the animal food bank in Rathenow.

Despite the increasing demand, animal owners receive the same amount of food every time they are distributed, which puts a significant strain on the owners' tense financial situation and the well-being of their animals. It remains to be hoped that both Kalle and the Tiertafel receive the support and attention they need. It now remains to be seen whether Kalle's original owner will show up or whether he will find a loving home with a new family.
