Summer festival in Ribbeck: District administrator calls for cooperation despite renovation stress
A sunny day in Ribbeck: On June 18, 2025, the Havelland district celebrated an exuberant summer festival in Ribbeck Castle. Organized by District Administrator Roger Lewandowski, the event provided a perfect backdrop for exchanging ideas and strengthening the community. In his speech, Lewandowski emphasized the importance of perseverance and perseverance, especially in light of the current challenges affecting the region. The tense financial situation, difficulties in filling vacancies and support for the clinics were the central point of his speech. “In difficult times, we have to find solutions together,” he said and called for cooperation.
However, the summer festival celebrations were not only characterized by serious topics. Those present also celebrated “10 years of partnership” with the Siegen-Wittgenstein district and 35 years with Rendsburg-Eckenförde. In keeping with this, Lewandowski presented a pear tree as a symbol of his solidarity with Ribbeck. In addition, Catrin Seeger, who campaigns for women affected by violence, was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Brandenburg and thus received a well-deserved recognition of her work.
Railway projects and challenges
An important concern that District Administrator Lewandowski raised concerns the renovation of the Hamburg-Berlin railway line. From August 1, 2025, extensive construction work will be carried out on this important connection and will last until April 30, 2026. According to Lewandowski, this general renovation represents a major burden for the region, as the restrictions will also affect local and long-distance transport. The district is already committed to better solutions to mitigate these measures.
The railway line, which is 284.1 kilometers long and runs through several federal states, is essential for mobility in the region. The planned construction work includes the renewal of over 180 kilometers of tracks and 200 switches. During the construction period, long-distance traffic will continue with up to 65 daily ICE trips, although the travel time between Hamburg and Berlin will be extended by around 45 minutes. Travelers can look forward to new direct connections and additional bus routes that will be set up during construction to ensure mobility.
Further planned improvements include increasing the attractiveness of 28 train stations, which will be equipped with new toilet facilities and improved accessibility, among other things. The construction of new radio masts will also optimize future communication in rail transport.
The challenges affecting the region and its residents are diverse, but Lewandowski remains optimistic. “By joining forces, we can tackle the tasks ahead and strengthen our community,” said the district administrator. The idyllic nature of the summer festival and the positive response from visitors show that cohesion is alive in Ribbeck and the Havelland district.
