Storm chaos in Berlin: S-Bahn traffic back after fatal incident!

A violent storm hit Berlin and the surrounding region on Monday and caused considerable chaos. At least one death and several injuries were reported as falling trees and gale-force winds of up to 108 km/h hit the city. The storm ended particularly tragically for a woman in Spandau, who was fatally injured by a falling tree. The storm not only claimed lives, but also caused numerous injuries, including at least three people with life-threatening injuries from falling branches or trees.  KA News reports.

The storm meant that S-Bahn traffic in Berlin had to be suspended for hours, while many travelers were stranded on the railway line between Berlin and Hamburg. The first S-Bahn trains were only able to run again in the evening, but there were frequent delays. Regional and long-distance transport was also affected by the extreme weather conditions. By Tuesday morning, Deutsche Bahn plans to gradually switch operations back to the normal timetable, while the final route closures are scheduled to be lifted on Tuesday morning.

Severely affected transport network

The fire department in Berlin recorded over 500 missions due to the storm damage. Fallen trees blocked numerous streets during rush hour, causing problems for bus and tram traffic. There were branches and leaves littering the streets all over the city, and cleanup and repair work is in full swing. The fire brigade in Potsdam was also busy clearing streets and paths of rubble.

Outlook and weather forecast

The weather service expects windy weather to continue Tuesday, with gusts up to 60 km/h. Temperatures are expected to be between 20 and 25 degrees, and occasional rain is expected. It remains to be seen how quickly the city can recover from the storm damage, as the widespread impact of the storm was also felt in other parts of the region. The city administration has already announced that clean-up work will be a priority in order to return to normality as quickly as possible. T-Online points this out, some events even had to be interrupted to ensure the safety of participants.
