Health insurance contributions are rising again: This is how much you will pay from July 2025!

In Germany, the financial burden of health insurance contributions is increasing again. From July 2025, those insured must be prepared for noticeable increases in additional contributions. According to reports from Mercury A total of eight statutory health insurance companies are increasing their contributions, which poses a challenge for many citizens. The IKK Berlin and Brandenburg is increasing its contribution by a whopping 1.3 percent to a total of 4.35 percent, followed by the IKK - Innovation Fund with an increase to 4.30 percent.

The reasons for these adjustments are complex, but the financial difficulties of health insurance companies remain a central problem. The National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds has already called for more support to be urgently needed, while the new federal government has disappointed the perception of many health insurance companies. How Health insurance information Further reported, 14 health insurance companies have already increased their contributions this year and six other health insurance companies have applied for additional increases as of July 1st.

Premium jumps and additional costs

The biggest increase comes with the IKK Berlin and Brandenburg, which means an additional burden of 156 euros annually for a single with a gross income of 2,000 euros. For a higher-paying job or for the self-employed, the burden can even be up to 859 euros per year. There are also considerable increases for other health insurance companies:

  • IKK – Innovationskasse: +0,7 % auf 4,30 % (Gesamtbeitrag: 18,90 %)
  • SECURVITA: von 3,20 % auf 3,90 % (Gesamtbeitrag: 18,50 %)
  • BKK Technoform: +1 % auf 3,49 % (Gesamtbeitrag: 18,09 %)

For insured persons, in many cases this not only means an increase in monthly expenses, but also the right to special termination. This means that those affected can change health insurance companies without much bureaucratic effort and look for potentially cheaper alternatives.

Public reactions and future outlook

The current increases are not only due to economic factors, but also reflect the ongoing discussion about health policy in need of reform. Health Minister Nina Warken points to an annual deficit of over ten billion euros. There seems to be no way out or in sight, as the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds has called for a moratorium to limit spending, while the Techniker Krankenkasse describes the loans on offer as inadequate. Another problem remains the financing of non-insurance services, as shown on the website Federal Ministry of Health is to be read.

In the coming year 2025, the federal government plans to support health insurance companies and long-term care insurance with loans totaling 2.3 billion euros. But it remains to be seen whether these measures will be enough to sustainably solve the ongoing financial problems in the healthcare system. Uncertainty about future premium increases remains and many are wondering how they should meet the challenges ahead.
