55-year-old from Oranienburg has to answer for child pornography
In Oranienburg, a serious case of child pornography concerns the judiciary and the public. A 55-year-old man is on trial on suspicion of obtaining and distributing child and youth pornography material. According to information from maz-online.de A total of 458 files, including thousands of images and videos, were seized during a search of his home in the Oberhavel district. The evidence dates from September 2018 to June 2020.
The investigations led to a dedicated meeting between the specialized unit to combat child pornography, which has an international network. This challenge has not only legal but also social consequences, as the defendant, a disability pensioner, suffers from health problems, including a long-standing addiction to alcohol and nicotine.
The negotiation and the health status
The court, headed by a presiding judge, ordered a psychological evaluation of the defendant. This is done as part of a self-reading process to check the treatment of pedophilic tendencies and the possible reduced guilt due to previous alcohol and nicotine consumption. Interestingly, the 55-year-old has not drunk alcohol and quit smoking since 2022, which was confirmed by his carer, who was heard as a witness.
While the main hearing was postponed to a new date, the public prosecutor's office is demanding a current assessment of the defendant. “There are still open questions regarding his therapy and the legal assessment of his actions,” said a spokesman for the responsible authority in Cottbus n-tv.de reported.
An environment of uncertainty
The suspicion of possession of child and youth pornographic material was supported by various objects searched in the Oberhavel district. During the search, investigators found a large number of data carriers and hardware that could potentially take longer to evaluate. Even though the accused was processed for identification purposes, no arrest has been made to date. The police and prosecutors now face the challenge of thoroughly analyzing all the evidence secured.
As is often the case in such cases, society will be sensitized to the case and will eagerly await further legal action. It is to be hoped that the matter will come to a conclusion soon and justice will be served on behalf of the children and young people.
