Emotional farewell: Oranienburg fire department and FSV mourn Jan Dieterle

In a moving farewell, the community at the Oranienburg city cemetery said goodbye to Jan Dieterle, a valued member of the volunteer fire department in Germendorf and an active player for the local football club FSV Germendorf. The 33-year-old died on July 11, 2025 after a serious illness. More than 160 mourners were present at the funeral, who remembered him together with friends, relatives and fellow firefighters. Cornel Gratz, head of the volunteer fire department, described the ceremony as “emotional and dignified.”

The sadness for Dieterle was noticeable, not only among the fire department members, but also among the footballers at FSV Germendorf, where he was active as a groundskeeper and a member of the second team. The club boss Heino Sandig expressed his concern and confirmed that the news of Dieterle's death had hit the entire team hard. The close connection between the fire department and the football club became particularly clear during the ceremony, when members of the fire department formed a line of honor and Gratz carried the urn with great emotion.

A life for the community

Jan Dieterle had been active in the fire department for many years and was particularly valued for his commitment as a trained instructor in the youth fire department. His tireless efforts, often in the background and without ever wanting to be the center of attention, made him an exemplary comrade. He was also well known for his willingness to help, which Gratz particularly emphasized in his speech. His importance to the fire department and the community will continue to be honored through a book of condolence displayed at the fire station. A photo of Dieterle will also be displayed to commemorate his achievements.

The participation of the partner fire department from Eggesin in the funeral underlines the appreciation that Dieterle enjoyed beyond the borders of his home community. In times like these, it becomes clear how important it is to have people who take on such tasks voluntarily and without pay - these “volunteers” are a mainstay of our community.

When we talk about “volunteers,” we often think of people who are willing to work for the well-being of others without expecting anything in return. As described in the Duden, the term refers to people who work voluntarily for a specific task without monetary remuneration. In this case, Jan Dieterle is a shining example of this spirit of voluntariness and commitment.

The memory of Jan Dieterle will continue to live in the hearts of his comrades and friends who support each other in these difficult times. His legacy continues through the many he touched.
