Heart for the hospice: Donation run in Sachsenhausen inspires 142 participants!
On Saturday, June 28, 2025, the donation run for the Oberhavel “Life Sounds” Hospice took place in Sachsenhausen, an event that is a highlight of the year for many. Organized by the initiative "We for you" and the SSV Hohen Neuendorf , the run was not only a sporting challenge, but also a matter close to the heart. The aim was to collect donations to fulfill small wishes to the residents of the hospice. Both runners and walkers came in droves to work for this good cause.
In summer temperatures, the participants set out on the various routes that extended over 5, 18 and 24 kilometers. The starting shot was given at 10:30 a.m., led by the local sizes: the local mayor of Sachsenhausen and the chairman of TuS Sachsenhausen e.V. and SSV Hohen Neuendorf e.V. It was an impressive picture when 142 runners in the 5 km race, 46 in the 18 km run and 47 in the 24 km run, numerous walkers added Number of participants.
route and highlights of the day
The routes led the participants through picturesque landscapes, past the Oranienburger Schleuse and the Lehnitzsee nature trail, including checkpoints on the former rescue station and the hospice itself. The athletes were able to enjoy the beauty of the region to the fullest. At the end of the day, a joint award ceremony was held at 4:30 p.m. by the district administrator of the district of Oberhavel and other guests of honor.
The physical well-being was also taken care of: in the stadium of the gymnastics and sports club 1896 Sachsenhausen there was a snack and beverage offer, and the programs presented, including a raffle and various activities such as music and bouncy castle, created a happy mood around the event.
an important concern
The Hospiz Oberhavel "Life Sounds" is one of the approximately 260 inpatient hospices in Germany, in which people are supported in their last phase of life. With an average number of beds of around 10 per facility, an essential role in palliative care is played. Over 120,000 people are involved in the hospice and palliative work in Germany, which again underlines the importance of such events.
The numbers speak for themselves: With around 1,500 outpatient hospice services and 350 palliative care, the offers in supply have grown sharply. The number of doctors who complete additional training in palliative medicine has also increased rapidly in recent years. This shows how important it is to widely sensitized to these topics and to carry them to society. The initiative "We for you" and the German Hospiz- und Palliative Association do valuable work here to hear this concern.
Events such as the donation run can not only convey joy and exercise, but also raise awareness of the people in need in the region. The social cohesion and the support of the local community make a significant contribution to the fact that the wishes of the hospice residents can come true. A big thank you goes to everyone involved who made this day possible!
