Zehlendorf local council: Dissolution due to lack of members – new elections now!

The local advisory board in Zehlendorf, a small but important part of the municipal structure, was dissolved. This is reported by the MAZ. The reason for this step is the insufficient number of members after several resignations. The original members of the local advisory board included Anja Rosenow-Doil from the Free Voters, Jörg Thomas from the AfD and Ahmet Öztemel from the SPD.

The resignation of Anja Rosenow-Doil, who resigned from her mandate on June 30, was particularly serious. After her resignation, Ahmet Öztemel took over as chairman. But the committee did not remain stable: Jörg Thomas gave up his mandate on October 20, 2025. After his resignation, the local council no longer had a quorum because no replacement candidates were available. The local advisory board then agreed Brandenburg local election law dissolved. The mayor carried out the formal dissolution on October 23, 2025.

Upcoming new elections

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel for the residents of Zehlendorf: the new elections for the local council are scheduled for February 22, 2026. The dissolution and the upcoming elections are part of a regular process in accordance with the provisions of the Brandenburg Local Elections Act. According to this law, the representatives of the municipal councils and local councils are elected in a proportional representation for a period of five years. The legal electoral system allows votes to be cast for both an individual and a party.

Eligibility to vote includes all Germans and EU citizens aged 16 and over who live in the electoral area. These rules are important for the commissions that have to monitor the proper conduct of elections. Election authorities, returning officers and electoral committees will play a major role in the preparation of the elections to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

The future structure

It remains exciting to see how the political landscape in Zehlendorf will develop. The dissolution of the local advisory board shows how dynamic local events are and that strong commitment from citizens is required. The elections in February 2026 will show whether new faces can take on the challenge and bring a breath of fresh air into political committees. The future members of the local advisory board will play an important role in how the concerns of the population in Zehlendorf are addressed and decided in the coming years.
