Over 850 young people celebrate the transition into adult life in Oberhavel!
The atmosphere in Oberhavel is great, because over 850 young people experienced a festival at the youth celebrations this year that they will not soon forget. These celebrations, which mark the transition into adult life, are a social highlight that was organized by the dedicated youth celebration office of the Jugend- und Sozialwerk non-profit GmbH. A total of 23 festive events took place in June, with the last one taking place on June 28th in the Mosaik-Gymnasium Oranienburg, where almost 900 guests came together.
The stage program was a real feast for the ears and an emotional highlight at the same time. Songs by Samira and her band as well as the speech by keynote speaker Ronald Bergner provided numerous moving moments. These celebrations not only bring together friends and family, but also offer valuable impulses for the young people, which took place in Löwenberg, Zehdenick, Hennigsdorf and Oranienburg. Together with Mayor Alexander Laesicke and Head of Social Affairs Stefanie Rose, who sent greetings, the young people had an unforgettable day.
A step into adult life
The youth celebrations have their origins in free religious communities and are particularly widespread in eastern Germany. With the celebration usually taking place at the age of 14, the events help young people find their place in society. Values such as freedom of belief, tolerance and the freedom to shape one's life are in the foreground. “These celebrations are very important for our young people,” emphasizes a contact from the youth celebration office, Mr. Preller.
“There’s something going on!” The young people also felt this, as they were all starting a new phase in their lives. Emotions became clear in many places during the celebrations - joy and excitement were omnipresent. The events are modern, emotional and yet realistic and are well received by the participants. Planning for the 2026 youth celebration is already in full swing. Information is available on the website www.jugend Feier-ohv.de or directly by phone at 03301 / 804801.
A look beyond Oberhavel
The phenomenon of youth celebrations is not limited to Oberhavel. In Berlin and Brandenburg, thousands of young people celebrate their entry into adult life at the same time. The number of participants registered for the celebrations has increased from 7,374 to an impressive 8,350 compared to the previous year. “This trust in our work is reflected in the lively participation,” said association board member David Driese recently about the pleasing figures.
A total of 2,600 young people decided to take part in the Jugendweihe, a tradition that dates back more than 170 years and was once almost compulsory for eighth graders in the GDR. These celebrations are a beautiful way to symbolically leave childhood behind and grow up. This suggests that the transition to adulthood is very important in our society.
