Zehdenicks Kalmutzke: The tireless deputy in the administrative chaos!

The city of Zehdenick has a new, committed deputy mayor, Marco Kalmutzke, who has played a central role in the administration in recent months. Since June 12, 2025, Kalmutzke has officially represented the ill administrative chief Alexander Kretzschmar, who is non-party, and has been doing so for almost three months. Kalmutzke, who was appointed head of the finance department on July 1, 2021, also represented his predecessor Lucas Halle (SPD) before the new elections in March this year.

Halle, who was elected the youngest full-time mayor in 2022 at the age of 24, applied for dismissal in late summer 2024 due to health reasons. In his current position, Kalmutzke has emphasized that the administration's ability to act is the top priority. His team continues to devote itself to important topics such as digitalization and the shortage of skilled workers, which are being pushed forward even in the absence of the new mayor.

A strong team for the future

Marco Kalmutzke is convinced that cooperation within the administration is crucial to tackling the current challenges. The city has had a budget in effect since January 1, 2025, and Kalmutzke emphasizes the importance of a strong team in achieving the set goals. It should also be noted on a positive note that the ability to present the 2026 budget on time depends on developments at the state and federal levels.

Being a substitute not only brings with it additional responsibility, but also increased working hours. Kalmutzke brings his experience from his training as an administrative assistant in the Zehdenick city administration to his new role and strives to make the administration future-proof.

In the digital fast lane

An example of the digitization of administration from another initiative is the first virtual conference “Discover Digital Administration”, which took place on September 30, 2024. Organized by the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, RheinMain University of Applied Sciences and the National E-Government Center, around 90 participants registered, around 60 of whom actively took part in keynote speeches and workshops. Topics such as infrastructure, artificial intelligence and the digitalization of administration were the focus of the discussions.

In his keynote, speaker Christian Rupp emphasized the need for AI strategies for modern administration. This innovative approach to digital transformation could also serve as a role model for Zehdenick in meeting the challenges.

In the service of the population

In addition to improving administrative structures, it also provides important information for citizens. Found items such as bicycles, keys and jewelry are received, noted and stored in the city's lost property office. Lost property that remains there for longer than six months will be listed www.zoll-auktion.de advertised and can be auctioned. To obtain information or to collect lost property, citizens can contact us using the telephone numbers and email addresses provided.

The ability to act, digitalization and transparency in dealing with lost property show that the city administration in Zehdenick has a good knack for meeting the needs of its citizens and at the same time working on a future-oriented administration. Marco Kalmutzke remains a central anchor in the current situation and will continue to work at the top of the administration.
