In today's world, knowledge of first aid is more important than ever. This is where lay helpers come into play, who get the rescue chain rolling by providing first aid and making an emergency call to 112. What is alarming is that, according to a survey by the Civey opinion research institute, one in four people do not have sufficient first aid knowledge. More than half of the population has not taken a first aid course in the last ten years.
First aid in everyday life – it can be that simple
Every second counts, especially in emergency situations, and further training in first aid is essential. The Red Cross courses offer customized training courses for various target groups. From a one-day course for driving license applicants to special programs for educators and athletes - the options are diverse.

A basic first aid certificate is valid for life, but experts recommend refreshing your knowledge in a refresher course every five years. The former DRK President Dr. Rudolf Seiters points out that a one-time course is not enough to be able to act safely in critical situations. In Germany, an average of eight people die in traffic every day, which should support the attractive idea of becoming active yourself.
Knowledge is saving lives
The importance of first aid measures cannot be overemphasized. They are an indispensable part of the entire rescue chain. First responders who act quickly can make all the difference in an emergency and ultimately save lives. The statutory health insurance on-call service is also available around the clock on 116 117 for non-life-threatening situations - a good addition that many people are not aware of.
