1.8 million euros for cross -border climate protection at the Oder!

In the charming Mescherin in the Uckermark district, a new cross -border project will soon be launched, which is devoted to the pressing challenges of climate change and the associated risks of new animal diseases. A funding contract for the Interreg project "Odraclimateguard" has currently been signed, which comprises a considerable sum of 1.8 million euros. As reports [CityReport] (https://cityreport.pnr24-online.de/foerder contract--Tas- interreg-project-Odraclimateguard-community-against-Klimawandel-und-Neue-Anlasuchen-im- or Poland to expand the Oder partnership and to compete together against climate -related threats.

The threats from climate change, as is well known, do not stop at national borders. Karina Dörk, District Administrator of the Uckermark, underlines the need for closer cooperation and refers to public fish deaths in or in 2022 as a result of climate changes. A targeted preparation for possible dangers is therefore essential.

common approach

In order to tackle these challenges, three central work areas have been set: the expansion of the Oder partnership, the development of cross -border skill management to combat animal diseases and the targeted preparation of the emergency services for cross -border missions. This should be achieved through a joint assistance agreement and the coordination of alarm and operational concepts in order to be able to react quickly in an emergency. Interreg shows that the cooperation is particularly crucial to combat the spread of diseases that are transmitted by insects such as mosquitoes and ticks.

The counties involved have specialized: While Vorpommern-Greifswald takes over the leadership of the emergency services, Gryfino takes care of environmental analysis and the Uckermark district is responsible for rescue from danger areas and decontamination. So each region will bring its strengths into the common thing.

an extensive project

The “Odraclimateguard” project will run by the end of 2028 and includes several practical exercises for better training for fire departments and for coordination between the partners. In particular, large exercises are planned in Gryfino and Uckermark, which are intended to serve as a conclusion of the project. According to [Nordkurier] (https://www.nordkurier.de/regional/uckermark/deutsch-polnische-millionprojekt- against Klimawandel- und-Tiuche-an-Oder-3743054), not only is the danger defense, but also the mutual assistance in disaster.

A total of 1,790,779.16 euros are available for the project, whereby the EU pays 80 percent of the costs via the European Fund for Regional Development (ERDR). This shows how serious the partners take with the topic and that climate change and the resulting biological dangers require a joint answer.

The district councilors Ewa Dudar and Michael Sack emphasized the importance of a bundled effort in the event of natural disasters during the contract. One agrees: more can be achieved together.
