Come get vaccinated! Free HPV vaccination day in Potsdam on July 15th

Next Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a special day of action under the motto “Come get vaccinated” will take place at the Potsdam Health Department. The event, which will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Berliner Straße 150 a, Haus P, 14467 Potsdam, aims to raise awareness of the HPV vaccination and provide the population with a free vaccination offer. All age groups are invited to come to the site without prior appointment and find out about the importance of vaccination.

Dr. Kristina Böhm, who is responsible for the vaccination campaign, emphasizes that the HPV vaccination not only has a positive impact on health, but can also make a decisive contribution to preventing life-threatening diseases. “Every vaccination is a step in the right direction,” she explains. The experts recommend the HPV vaccination, especially for children aged 10 and over, in order to minimize later health risks, such as cervical or penile cancer. Dr. Judith Freytag supports this statement and recalls the recommendations of the Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) in this context.

Comprehensive offer for everyone

The vaccination campaign is aimed not only at insured people, but also at uninsured people, who have the opportunity to check their vaccination status and have any missing vaccinations made up. The STIKO vaccines offered are available in sufficient quantities so that anyone interested can be helped. If you have your vaccination certificate or health insurance card, you should bring it with you to ensure everything goes smoothly.

The importance of the HPV vaccination is obvious: According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), over 500 million doses will have been administered worldwide by 2022. In Germany, more than 10 million HPV vaccinations were given between 2014 and 2024. The RKI emphasizes that the vaccination is considered very safe and that persistent or serious side effects have only been reported in individual cases.

Safety ratings and untrue rumors

The World Health Organization (WHO) has been conducting regular safety assessments of the HPV vaccination since 2007 and concludes that the risk of health problems from vaccination is extremely low. Despite some reports of adverse effects, such as dizziness or local reactions at the injection site, there is no proven causal link between the HPV vaccination and serious illnesses such as CRPS or POTS. False claims circulating on social media about possible effects of vaccination, such as infertility, are unfounded and should be critically examined.

With the vaccination campaign on July 15th, the Potsdam Health Department is offering citizens an excellent opportunity to actively do something for their health and find out about the benefits of the HPV vaccination.
