The training market in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district will show an increase in places in 2024/2025, but a decline in applicants.

Training market in Prignitz: More places than applicants – what now?
On October 31, 2025, the Neuruppin Employment Agency presented its annual report on the training market for the year 2024/2025. The press conference took place at the picturesque Sport & Vital Resort Neuer Hennings Hof in Perleberg and highlighted developments in the districts of Havelland, Oberhavel, Ostprignitz-Ruppin and Prignitz. The numbers show a positive development, even if challenges remain.
In Prignitz there are currently more training places than applicants: 566 places compared to only 353 applicants. This discrepancy is primarily due to demographic changes. However, the number of applicants has shrunk by around 10 percent compared to the previous year, making the situation more complicated for companies looking for trainees. In addition, the number of companies providing training is decreasing - a trend that is cause for concern.
Popular careers and placement rates
A bright spot in the current tense situation is the agency's high placement rate. Of the 353 applications, only 28 remained unplaced by the end of September - a number that has now been reduced to five. The automotive mechatronics technician profession remains the most popular in the region, a trend that has continued for two decades. There is also growing interest in professions such as industrial mechanics, electrical engineers and plant mechanics.
However, finding new career starters has proven to be challenging as fewer and fewer young people are moving to big cities. A lack of housing and rising rents mean that many people from Prignitz remain in their home region. Young people have high expectations of their training position: companies should offer flexible working hours, additional benefits and a good working atmosphere in order to remain attractive.
The training market in a nationwide comparison
The training market has not only developed positively in Prignitz, but is also characterized by dynamic changes on a larger scale. The correlation between the requirements of the economy and the wishes of trainees requires a rethink and innovative approaches. Career advisor Thomas Leitert is increasingly suggesting internships to make it easier to enter the professional world.
In summary, the training market in Prignitz remains exciting and promising, even if the challenges should not be underestimated. The employment agency will continue to work to build a bridge between the needs of young people and the demands of companies.
