Traffic jam chaos on the B167: Drivers between Alt Ruppin and Neuruppin are desperate!

On Friday, a makeshift traffic light in Alt Ruppin caused a real traffic gridlock on the B167 in the direction of Herzberg. The traffic jam stretched all the way to the high school center in Neuruppin and almost drove drivers to despair. Some raised their hands and chose the seemingly easier but risky route - they drove through the roundabout in the wrong direction to turn onto the B122 towards Zippelsförde and Rheinsberg. It's a situation that many of us know from painful experience: traffic jams become a test of patience.

However, there is also good news. From Monday, the makeshift traffic light at the level crossing in Alt Ruppin will no longer be needed, as buses can now easily bypass the closed Seedamm in the direction of Neuruppin through Gildenhall. Construction work on the new crossing in Gildenhall is already well advanced and the through-town route will soon be reopened. Motorists have been able to drive through Gildenhall since Friday evening, although there is still some remaining work to be done.

Construction sites and traffic management

Another reason for the backlog chaos is the prolonged full closure of the access to Gildenhall from the direction of Neuruppin. This measure had been in effect since May and even made life difficult for the school children, as they had to stop at the lake dam and walk to the Gildenhall primary school. The bus company ORP threatened to stop running the school buses because of the poor condition of Hermsdorfer Weg. But there are bright spots here too: new construction work to improve Hermsdorfer Weg is already in the starting blocks and is due to be implemented during the summer holidays.

For a long time, the city administration was unable to carry out a fundamental renovation. A new building on Hermsdorfer Weg failed due to the high costs and complicated ownership relationships. Now the city has finally provided funds for the asphalt surface, so residents can soon breathe a sigh of relief. In a few weeks, a good hand at this point will also ensure less traffic jams!

The traffic jams in Germany

A look at the statistics shows that the amount of traffic jams in Germany is not decreasing. According to recent reports, traffic jams have increased in the first months of 2024 compared to last year. In total, drivers spent 448,000 hours in traffic jams, an increase of 21,000 hours compared to 2023. North Rhine-Westphalia was particularly affected and recorded 31.5 percent of the kilometers of traffic jams.

The most common traffic jams are due to increased traffic volumes and numerous construction sites. A real danger in heavy traffic is the so-called accordion effect, which is caused by sudden braking, particularly on motorways, and leads to even more traffic jams. The weather conditions also contributed, such as the wintry road conditions in November, which caused additional traffic problems.

Traffic jams don't happen overnight - and they have become an integral part of everyday life. So anyone who has to hit the streets after work or at the weekend should be prepared for traffic jams like the one on the B167 in Neuruppin to be a common sight. This makes it all the more important to check the latest traffic reports before driving in order to avoid the stress test on the road.

But how can you best prepare for traffic jams? Tips for avoiding stress include, among other things, simply taking a deep breath, listening to good music or taking a short break for some fresh air. This way the travel time remains at least a little relaxed!
