Gigantic pumpkins conquer Klaistow: The big pumpkin slaughter!

The traditional pumpkin slaughter in Klaistow attracted numerous visitors to the asparagus farm on Sunday. The event, which has been an integral part of the region for 20 years, not only offers a gruesome spectacle, but also exciting insights into the world of pumpkin growers. In brilliant weather, gigantic pumpkins were presented, which were “slaughtered” with great skill and joy. When they saw the specimens weighing around 1,035 kilograms, some visitors probably thought that completely different dimensions were at work here. Michael Schade and Bernd Paul from Elsholz contributed their pumpkin, the heaviest of this year's competition, to the weigh-in, which took place at the end of September.

“Weighing intact” is the goal of this competition, and this year too the team around the Spargelhof managed to crack the magical limit. Last year's winner, a 905 kilogram pumpkin from Oliver Grafe from Großthiemig, did not have the chance to defend the title at this year's event. The participants were excited about their breeding and the enthusiasm among the visitors was clearly noticeable. Children and adults alike had great fun working with the pumpkin flesh, while the seeds, often in demand at this festival, were a popular souvenir for home gardeners.

A place of encounter and diversity

The Klaistow asparagus farm, which was founded in 1990 and is run by the Winkelmann family, is known far beyond the region. Not only pumpkins thrive here on an area of around 800 hectares, but also asparagus, strawberries and blueberries. The farm markets its products at around 100 stands in Berlin and Brandenburg, making it an important local economic factor.

Visitors had the opportunity to learn more about the work of pumpkin growers as the presenter provided interesting insights and stories about the cultivation and care of pumpkins. This not only hinders the attractiveness of the event, but also promotes understanding of the region's agricultural practices.

Pumpkin slaughter is not only an attraction for locals, but also attracts many tourists. This is reflected in the large number of people present who spent an entertaining day together. The fun, the community and the hustle and bustle make the event a popular festival that should not be missed. For everyone who would also like to enjoy the colorful spectacle, further information is available on the [Spargelhof Klaistow] website (https://www.spargelhof-klaistow.de/event/kuerbis-schlachten/).

Pumpkin slaughter remains a great example of the region's traditions, delighting both young and old and strengthening the community.
