Severe storm in Berlin: Hundreds of missions and injuries!

A violent storm hit Berlin and Brandenburg, causing chaos and damage. On the evening of June 26, 2025, a storm with hurricane-force gusts hit the region, resulting in numerous fire brigade deployments. In Berlin alone, over 860 weather-related missions were recorded Daily Mirror reported.

The northern parts of the city were particularly affected, especially Heiligensee, where two people were seriously injured. There was also a seriously injured woman in Potsdam whose life was in danger. The fire department strongly advises against visiting parks and green spaces as falling branches and fallen trees pose acute dangers. For example, the Tegel Forest will remain closed until further notice - the clean-up work is expected to take weeks.

The traffic is at a standstill

The storm hit Berlin around 6 p.m. and the first reports of damage came in quickly. The S-Bahn stopped running for almost an hour shortly after 6:30 p.m. because there were around 30 trees on the tracks. Eight S-Bahn trains were damaged and passengers continue to face restrictions. Loud ZDF Traffic was stopped for hours and bus and tram problems also increased as many roads were blocked.

The traffic chaos wasn't just limited to the S-Bahn. There were massive delays and many cancellations at Berlin Central Station as the fire brigade was busy cleaning up. The weather service had issued a severe weather warning in the red level (3 out of 4) for the west of Berlin, which was not unfounded. The highest wind speeds, over 100 km/h, were measured in the region at the Free University and in Tempelhof.

Weather forecast and safety measures

The situation seems to be slowly easing, but wind gusts of up to 60 km/h and temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees are still forecast for Tuesday morning. Another one Severe Weather Center provides information about current weather conditions and issues warnings that provide timely warning of possible storms or other natural hazards.

All road users and citizens are called upon to be careful and to avoid risky outdoor activities at all costs. The situation remains tense and the fire brigade and transport authorities continue to work to ensure that the city returns to normality as quickly as possible.
