Potsdam, the popular holiday destination of 2025, is recording an increase in overnight stays and a high level of approval from residents for the city.

Potsdam is an absolute gem among German cities and enjoys great popularity among locals and tourists alike. As various surveys and statistics show, the people of Potsdam identify extremely well with their city as a travel destination. According to a study, 96% of the amazed population rate Potsdam as an attractive holiday destination. The joy in their own city is so great that 93% of those surveyed would also recommend Potsdam to others as a short vacation destination. This positive attitude is clearly reflected in the tourism figures.
In May 2025, 61,165 overnight guests were registered in Potsdam. That's a whopping 3,461 more than in May 2024, an increase of 6%. Compared to 2019, it can be seen that the city attracts 2,670 more visitors. What is particularly noteworthy is that the average length of stay for guests in the first five months of this year was 2.4 days, resulting in a total of 513,656 overnight stays. This marks a modest growth of 0.7% compared to the previous year.
Accommodation and leisure activities
The accommodation offering in Potsdam has also improved. With 7,562 beds available, 1,549 more than in 2019, the conditions for tourism provision are met. Bed occupancy shows a positive trend: while it was 50.8% in 2024, it climbed to 57.9% in May 2025. So the people of Potsdam know how to do a good deal and are promoting the city as a first-class travel destination.
The most popular leisure activities include visiting gardens and parks (a shocking 98% approval), nature stays (91%), city trips (88%), as well as water activities and visiting cultural institutions, both of which also achieved 88% approval. And where better to unwind than in the picturesque gardens of Sanssouci or on a steamboat trip on the Havel? These experiences not only magically attract tourists, but also the people of Potsdam themselves. In 2018, Potsdam recorded a total of 13.5 million overnight stays, making the city a real magnet for travelers.
Future prospects in tourism
A look into the future shows that Potsdam Marketing and Service GmbH has concrete plans to strengthen the city as a conference and congress location. As part of the founding of the MICE network Potsdam, competencies in the tourism industry are to be pooled in order to make the city even more attractive for events of all kinds.
