World star Wolfgang Joop celebrates his life's work in Potsdam - discover now!

It opens this Saturday, October 4th Potsdam Art Space its doors for a very special retrospective: Wolfgang Joop's life and creative work will be honored until November 18, 2025. The exhibition is entitled “Wolfgang Joop in the Art Space” and not only features fashion designs, but also paintings, sculptures and never-before-seen exhibits.

What can visitors expect? A thematic variety is offered on an impressive 450 square meters. Laid out in six areas, the show shows Joop's unique fashion creations as well as his paintings and digital works. Edwin Lemberg from Team Joop reveals that it's not just about the chronological order of his works, but above all about the thematic depth of his art. Central motifs that run through his work are monkeys and angels – a fascinating combination!

A life for art

Wolfgang Joop, who was born on November 18, 1944 in Potsdam and grew up in Bornstedt, is one of the biggest names in the German fashion world. Alongside Karl Lagerfeld and Jil Sander, he is one of the most successful fashion designers in Germany. His career took off in the 1970s when he launched his first fashion label. Joop! was founded in 1987 and quickly established itself as one of the most prominent brands in Germany.
Joop's influence on the industry is undisputed: he is celebrated as a mentor and pioneer and has set standards with his innovative collections that are groundbreaking for many young designers.

In recent years, Joop has not only shone in fashion, but also in the visual arts. His work is known for its slow-burn creativity and craftsmanship, characterized by opulent designs and modern minimalism. Many of his designs reflect social trends and influence current fashion trends. A particular focus is on harmoniously integrating cultural elements into his work.

Expectations and insights

Wolfgang Joop himself admitted that he felt a certain amount of stage fright before the retrospective. The star designer is not only known for his fashion, but also plans to write a "wickedly cynical, funny book" based on his many anecdotes. His time as a judge on “Germany’s Next Top Model” brought him additional popularity and brought him closer to a wider audience. Pulse24 reports that it was Joop's return to Potsdam after reunification that underlined his close ties to his hometown.

The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. The art space will be closed on October 9th. There are no fees for entry, but time slot tickets should be reserved online.

So if you want to take the chance to experience the fascinating world of Wolfgang Joop, you shouldn't miss the retrospective at the Kunstraum Potsdam! His upcoming works and the look at his impressive career promise a lot of excitement and inspiration.
