CSD Prignitz 2025: Wittenberge celebrates diversity and equality!

On July 5, 2025, Christopher Street Day (CSD) will be celebrated again in Wittenberge, an event that celebrates the colorful diversity of the LGBTQ+ community and at the same time advocates for their rights. The CSD Prignitz is a voluntary association of teenagers and young adults that has been committed to strengthening the voices of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender and intersex people since 2019. After canceling the event last year due to financial and personnel concerns, the organizers are now looking forward to getting the parade and the associated activities back on track Wittenberge reports that....

The celebrations begin at 5 p.m. at the Kultur- und Festspielhaus with a parade led by a tractor and a music wagon. Everyone who is committed to an open, respectful and equal society is warmly invited to take part. The event ends at around 7 p.m. next to the old post office at the train station, where there is a small market square with information stands and opportunities to participate.

An event with meaning

The organizers place great importance on the visibility of the LGBTQ+ community, especially in rural areas where such events are often rare. Jessika Muhs, coordinator at the district youth association, emphasizes the need to stand up for the rights and freedoms of these people outside of the big cities. The CSD is not only a celebration of joy, but also an important protest space to draw attention to the challenges and problems that the community is facing RBB 24 reports that ....

The LGBTI movement has a long history in Germany, dating back to the early 20th century. The first Christopher Street Liberation Day took place in 1970 when people took to the streets to demonstrate for their rights. This was a direct result of the Stonewall protest in New York that changed the world forever. Today, numerous CSDs take place in Germany between April and September, with the largest being celebrated in Cologne and Berlin Amnesty reports that ....

But despite some progress, such as marriage for all, the community faces challenges. There are still unmet demands, such as the introduction of a self-determination law. The situation of LGBTQ+ people remains tense in many countries, where they are subjected to dangerous reprisals.

Technical details about the event

For night owls, the “Bassrausch” event with electronic music will be offered in the old post office from 9 p.m. This offers another opportunity to spend the night in good company with music and dancing.

With all the anticipation for the CSD Prignitz 2025, the organizers and supporters hope for a colorful and loud celebration that shows that every person can stand up for their rights and an equal society. Everyone interested is invited to become part of this important movement and to show solidarity together.
