A cyclist for the hope: Oliver Trelenberg fulfills children's dreams

Wittenberge, Deutschland - Oliver Trelenberg from Hagen, North Rhine-Westphalia, is on an impressive bike adventure that has been lasting this year since May 19. He went on a trip to cycle around 4,500 kilometers through Germany - a real heart project. Trelenberg, who had to struggle with an eventful past, transports about 30 kilograms of luggage on his bike. He covers up to 90 kilometers every day, and his goal is to donate courage and hope for seriously ill children and young people, while at the same time collecting donations for the Cologne Association Wünschdirwas e.V. [Nordkurier] (https://www.nordkurier.de/regional/prampeln-fuer-ihre-ihre-o- oliver-wuensche-schwersche--Kinder-Kinder-Kinder-Kinder-3730258) reports that Trelenberg has been doing bike tours annually to share his own experience with others.

The 57-year-old has lived in his life, including violence, alcohol addiction and cancer. In 2013 he was diagnosed with larynx cancer, but he was able to defeat cancer. In acting, Trelenberg used the positive turn of his fate to inspire others. "It's not about eating kilometers, but about showing others that you can get back on your feet after strokes of fate," he emphasizes. This philosophy is reflected in his commitment to talk to representatives of the cities and municipalities about his project at every station and to distribute flyers about his initiative. WDR emphasizes that he also regularly includes personal stories from those affected in order to make the fate visible.

a difficult heritage, great success

Despite the challenges that his cancer brought with it - including health consequences such as breath shortage - Trelenberg has learned to deal with his symptoms. A more conscious cycling, slower and more even, enables him to cope with the route calmly. After his cancer diagnosis, he used cycling as a way to organize his thoughts and find peace. He has lived without alcohol since 2003, and after the diagnostic work he has committed himself to promoting others.

In recent years, Trelenberg has collected remarkable sums through his bike tours: in 2022 it was over 11,600 euros, in 2023 almost 18,000 euros. This shows how important his mission is, from both a personal and from a social perspective. Around 500,000 people fall ill in Germany each year, and many of them are children who are heavily burdened in the treatment. The Krebsportal informs that it is important to offer children a space in which they can talk about their illness. The challenges, especially for parents and family members, are enormous, and Trelenberg's commitment helps to relieve this emotional pressure.

A call to action

Another highlight of his trip was the reception in Wittenberge, where Anastasija Zado offered him free accommodation and breakfast. Such small gestures are invaluable for Trelenberg during his trip. "I want people to know that there can be a fresh start even after difficult times," says the cyclist. His next stopover will be planned for August 7th before returning home to the Ruhr area.

With his tour, Trelenberg not only goes to the limit - he also encourages others to get involved in good. His call is clear: Together we can offer those who need the most support. His project is an example of how personal challenges can be transformed into a positive influence for others.
