Hansa Rostock loses to Berliner AK despite an early opening goal
Today, November 12th, 2025, the A-Juniors of Hansa Rostock and Berliner AK faced each other in a test match. During the period without points, Hansa Rostock, currently third in preliminary group B of the Bundesliga, wanted to test its form. The Berliner AK, on the other hand, is currently in solid fourth place in season C. Hansa coach Christian Rahn was optimistic when his team took the lead right at the start in the 3rd minute through Pierre Sanguinette. But the Berlin AK managed to turn things around.
The first few minutes clearly belonged to Hansa Rostock, but the Berlin AK were not discouraged. After a corner, they equalized in the 15th minute and then made it 2-1 at halftime in the 37th minute. A double strike in the 48th and 50th minutes ultimately sealed the fate of Hansa Rostock, who lost the game 4-1. Despite the four goals conceded, Hansa goalkeeper Jonas Ehlert showed a remarkable performance, even if he was sometimes let down by his defenders.
Important findings from the test game
Coach Christian Rahn noted that the team lacked both the power and the right solutions. He still sees the game as a valuable experience at a high level. It's not just the test that is important for the team and its future development, but also the line-up used, which has shown that you have to be prepared for the challenges ahead. The Hansa U19 competed in the following formation: Ehlert – Lang (60th Barkow), Wodetzki (75th Jerghoff), Falk (60th Janke), Kolano, Linow, Sanguinette, Grabow, Ulrich, Bader (75th Amrhein) and Cierach.
Youth football in focus
Youth football plays a central role in the training of young talents. At club level there are numerous age groups, for players aged 5 to 19, who are divided into teams. For the A-Juniors, i.e. the U19s, the focus is on players who will be 18 or 19 years old this year. The performance density in the teams is often high and numerous large clubs have several teams in different age groups.
The development of the players is supported by various support systems, be it through football schools or DFB bases. It is not uncommon for talented players to be offered professional contracts at a young age. In addition, there are always incentives for people to change clubs, often with attractive conditions such as covering travel costs and equipment. For many, the path to the Bundesliga begins with the A and B juniors, who have to go through the corresponding performance classes before perhaps going on to the big stage.
For the actual challenges that lie ahead, it is essential that the teams present themselves well in these test matches and know how to take the right lessons with them, even if victory sometimes falls by the wayside. Berliner AK will certainly be able to approach their next position in the league with new confidence, while Hansa Rostock will have to work on their offensive.
Overall, it shows that test matches for young people are an important platform for further development and testing of one's own skills, not only for the players, but also for the coaches and the entire environment. The goals scored during a game are often only part of the story that needs to be told.
