Little reading wolves say goodbye: summer break until September!

The summer break is approaching, and that means for the “Little Reading Wolves” toddler group in the Pritzwalk City Library: No meetings in July and August. The last time the little book lovers and their companions gathered was on June 30th from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Parents and grandparents use this opportunity to exchange ideas about reading for the first time and suitable books for children aged 0 to 3. “We launched this group in January 2025 to offer parents and their children a space for exchanging experiences and learning together,” says Cindy Eckert from the Healthy Children Prignitz network, which supports the event. The children have the opportunity to explore the library while the adults get advice and discuss how important reading aloud is for the bond between parents and children.

The first date after the summer break has already been set: on September 15th from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. the “Little Reading Wolves” can immerse themselves in the world of books again. An exciting innovation awaits the participants in September: the toddler group will also take place in the afternoon, with the first afternoon meeting on September 29th from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. This gives families even more flexibility when it comes to their visits.

Regular meetings and content

From now on, the “Little Reading Wolves” meetings always take place on the last Monday of each month, which allows parents to establish a regular rhythm. The following additional dates are already in the pipeline for 2025:

  • 13. Oktober, 9.30 bis 12 Uhr
  • 10. November, 9.30 bis 12 Uhr
  • 24. November, 14.30 bis 16 Uhr
  • 15. Dezember, 14.30 bis 16 Uhr

The “Little Reading Wolves” not only offer an opportunity for the little ones to exchange ideas with each other in a playful way, but they also promote contact between parents. This way they can learn from each other and pass on experiences, whether it's practical tips or choosing suitable children's books that support language development.

A look beyond the boundaries of the city library

Similar toddler group formats also exist in other regions, such as Berlin, where the groups offer the opportunity for small children to interact with one another in a protected space. An atmosphere with soothing music and soft lighting ensures that families feel comfortable. These concepts show how important exchange is for the parent-child bond and that the focus is no longer just on reading aloud, but also on gaining experience in contact with peers.

The “Little Reading Wolves” prove that reading and reading aloud play a central role in early childhood. Anyone interested in the group can contact the Pritzwalk City Library directly on 03395/ 302573, or obtain further information from Cindy Eckert from the Healthy Children Network on 03395/ 4017287.

We look forward to many exciting reading hours together starting in September!
