Lutz Lange buys border tower at auction: new holiday resort with history!

A former GDR border tower in Cumlosen recently caused a stir at an auction. Lutz Lange, a regionally well-known entrepreneur, bought the striking building at auction for an impressive 156,000 euros - with a minimum bid of just 5,000 euros. The border tower thus emerged as the most popular object at the auction on June 27th in Berlin, where a total of 65 bidders competed for the historical structure. Lutz Lange, who also converted the Old Oil Mill in Wittenberge into a holiday resort, is planning a further step towards making the region more attractive to tourists with this project.

His plan for the border tower includes the creation of two to three holiday apartments as well as a small museum on the upper floor that will present the history of the border watchtower. This access to history is intended to offer not only locals but also tourists the opportunity to learn more about the past of border security. During his first auction participation, Lange experienced an exciting bidding war that exceeded the price of 100,000 euros within a few minutes, and as managing director of the Elberesort, he knows how to find the right way to deal with such valuable historical properties.

Tourist connections and renovation plans

The renovation of the tower is estimated to cost between 250,000 and 300,000 euros, and Lange plans to move forward with the work as quickly as possible. Access to the tower should be via the Hotel Alte Ölmühle - by canoe or bicycle. The proximity to the ferry between Lütkenwisch (Brandenburg) and Schnackenburg (Lower Saxony) will also be integrated into future tourist use. Lutz Lange also plans to collaborate with the Blue Light Museum in Beuster, which could increase the attractiveness of other local attractions.

The project is scheduled to be completed for the 2027 State Garden Show in Wittenberge, with planning scheduled to begin as early as 2025. With his instinct for monument protection and experience with renovations, such as Kletzke Castle, Lange is well positioned to overcome the challenges. In a region where tourism is an important economic factor, the border tower could become a real attraction.

Accessibility in focus

An important aspect that planning should not lose sight of is accessibility for people with disabilities. According to the official website Experience border towers Many of these historical sites are currently not barrier-free. It is crucial that future redevelopments also take into account the needs of all user groups, so that everyone has the opportunity to experience and enjoy the history of this storied place.

With committed plans and a vision for the development of the border tower, Lutz Lange could not only preserve an important part of the regional history, but also significantly enhance the tourist offering in the area. A clever move that combines the charm of the past with modern uses.
