22.5 million euros for daycare centers and sustainable building in Lusatia!

What is happening in Lusatia? There are currently exciting developments that will permanently change the face of the region. On July 16, 2025, the state government's Interministerial Working Group (IMAG) approved five new structural projects with a total investment volume of around 22.5 million euros. The main aim of these projects is to strengthen the social infrastructure in Lusatia Niederlausitz Current reported.

The planned projects include the new construction and expansion of daycare centers and after-school care centers in Finsterwalde, Jänschwalde and Schlieben. Particularly innovative is the construction of a resource-saving multi-purpose building in Kolkwitz, which will use a process for recycling concrete slabs from former GDR residential buildings. A process that was developed by the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. These measures are not only a big step towards improving the social infrastructure, they are also an important building block in meeting future challenges in the region.

New infrastructure projects

In addition to the projects mentioned, IMAG Lausitz recently approved three further projects with a total volume of around 59 million euros. These include the renovation of the Niederlausitzhalle in Senftenberg, the expansion of the industrial and commercial park in Herzberg (Elster) and the establishment of a daycare center with a MINT focus, also in Herzberg lausitz-brandenburg.de reported.

With the completion of the new daycare center, space will be created for 120 children who will be taught in a modern environment with a clear focus on STEM education from 2027. The renovation of the Niederlausitzhalle is intended to provide a CO2-neutral contact point for knowledge transfer and culture, which should be completed by 2027. The industrial and commercial park is also being pushed forward with the aim of making new space available for service providers and companies.

Funding opportunities for the region

The investments in Lusatia are not only motivated by local initiatives, but are also in the context of the federal government's Structural Strengthening Act, which guarantees the region massive funding totaling over 3.6 billion euros. In addition to improving infrastructure and social facilities, the funding aims to expand health and cultural facilities. The Investment Bank of the State of Brandenburg (ILB) is already active in funding and applications can be submitted for various projects, such as ilb.de explained.

In connection with structural development, it is not only the redesign of daycare centers and other social institutions that are important. The region is also being revitalized by the influx of approximately 7,000 new residents in Herzberg, underlining the importance of a comprehensive approach to creating new jobs and improving the quality of life in Lusatia.

Overall, it shows that Lusatia is well on the way to mastering the challenges of the future by driving forward both social infrastructure and economic development hand in hand. The coming years will be crucial in creating a livable and attractive region for residents.
