New approach to debt advice: AWO takes over in Forst!

In the Rose City of Forst, there will be significant changes in the area of debt advice at the end of 2025. The Zak Association, which has supported people in financial need for over three decades, will cease its activities. From December 2025, the Arbeiterwohlfahrt Bezirksverband Brandenburg Süd e.V. will take over responsibility for debt advice in the region. A step that is of great importance for many of those affected.

The new advice center will be set up at Kleine Amtstraße 2, a location that is already used for migration advice for adult immigrants. The decision to take over was made as part of an expression of interest process in which four providers applied for the successor. The Arbeiterwohlfahrt was convincing in the evaluation and received the highest number of points.

Financial situation of those affected

A look at the numbers shows that the need for debt advice is enormous. In 2024, the average debt of people seeking support was a whopping 32,976 euros. The figures are particularly alarming for those over 65, who are on average worth 47,000 euros. This circumstance shows how important the new contact point will be for the people in Forst.

In the future, the Workers' Welfare Advisory Services will only be available on a daily basis and by prior appointment. Although this can be a challenge, those responsible are convinced that it does not affect the quality of the advice. An employee of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt will start work in Forst on December 1, 2025.

Other advice centers in the region

But Forst is not the only city where people can receive support with financial difficulties. The state of Brandenburg offers numerous other positions for debtor and insolvency advice, including in Eisenhüttenstadt, Cottbus and Potsdam. Here are some of the most important points of contact:
