Summer holiday traffic jam: huge traffic at the German-Poland borders!
A look across the streets of Germany shows that travel chaos is not far away. According to the latest ADAC forecasts, holiday travel will increase further this weekend. Nine federal states finally have summer holidays, and schools have also closed in the Netherlands and Scandinavia. This inevitably leads to an increased risk of traffic jams, especially on German motorways and especially at the crossings near the border with Poland. The ADAC reports that the border crossings A11 in Pomellen, A12 in Frankfurt (Oder) and A15 in Forst (Spree-Neiße) are particularly affected.
The traffic jams towards Poland can also be caused by increased border controls when leaving Germany. Since the beginning of July there have been random checks at the border crossing, which can lead to longer waiting times. This regulation could contribute to the impatience of travelers who are about to head towards the Baltic Sea or further to Poland. The traffic situation is not getting any easier due to the ongoing construction sites in many places and the return of many holidaymakers.
Traffic jam forecasts and traffic disruptions
The motorways are particularly at risk of traffic jams on Friday afternoons, Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons. Day-trippers and last-minute travelers cause additional delays not only on the main routes, but also on the secondary roads. Loud analytical institutes There are over 1,200 construction sites on the highways that remain operational throughout the summer travel season and hinder the flow of traffic. The A1 to A99 are particularly busy routes.
For drivers this means: Anyone who drives on the weekend should be prepared for a high risk of traffic jams. The best days to travel are Monday to Thursday, when roads are typically less busy, especially outside rush hour. Particular attention is paid to the announced full closures, which affect, among other things, the A4 and A44. RBB24 also emphasizes that in order to relieve travel traffic, truck driving bans will apply on Sundays until the end of August.
Tips for travelers
Travelers should therefore plan well in advance and perhaps choose the rest periods of the trip. In addition, the strict entry controls on the German side in recent months are an additional challenge that you should be prepared for. It is recommended to find out about the current traffic situation and create an emergency lane, even if traffic is at a standstill. Failure to comply can result in fines of up to 320 euros.
With all the information on the table, it is clear: summer travel brings challenges. But with a good hand in planning and the right preparation, the trip will hopefully be a relaxed experience. So stay informed and prepare for what's to come!
