Brandenburg's fire brigade ready to go: New high-tech vehicles against forest fires!

There is currently a lot of fire in the Brandenburg area - and not just in the figurative sense. The forest fire season is in full swing and several fires were recorded in the first week of July, affecting a total area of 43 hectares. The current situation requires decisive action, and this shows that the Brandenburg state government is well equipped to meet the challenges. Around 47 million euros from the Brandenburg package were invested in modern operational technology to support fire departments in fighting fires, such as mik.brandenburg.de reported.

In order to meet the new challenges of responding to forest fires, three state-of-the-art vehicles were purchased for a total of 3.4 million euros. These new machines are specifically designed for use in areas contaminated with ammunition. One of the most innovative vehicles is the “Triton”, an armored vehicle that is used for exploration and control and can even be retrofitted with an on-board gun or water cannon. Safety is the priority here: The Triton also protects its occupants from explosions, for example from 6 kg of TNT. maz-online.de summarizes the details.

State-of-the-art technology for efficient combat

The other two vehicles complete the range: One of them is an unmanned land vehicle that can penetrate up to 30 cm into the ground to create fire protection strips and potentially detonate dangerous ammunition. The third vehicle is equipped with a grabber that is capable of uprooting trees and clearing the way to the source of the fire. The fire can be extinguished from up to five meters away, thanks to a 2500 liter water tank.

The emergency services' additional equipment also includes two sanitary trailers with toilets and washing areas as well as diesel and water tanks that can be filled with drinking or fire-fighting water. There are also seven Tatra trucks available that, with their 480 hp, can drive through deep water and lay hoses up to 2,000 meters long while driving to ensure the water supply in the event of forest fires.

Efficient coordination and monitoring

The South Forest Fire Center monitors the fire situation using 106 surveillance cameras and innovative systems for smoke detection and data transmission. These technologies have been modernized with EU and state funding, including €4.2 million from the country's investment bank. Forest fire protection officer Raimund Engel emphasizes the importance of early fire detection. In addition, a forest fire operations map will be published this year, providing crucial information on the path network, fire-fighting water supply and prevention measures.

Brandenburg is not only investing in technology, but has also pushed the construction of new fire-fighting water wells. Last year, 23 new wells were put into operation, for which over 600,000 euros in funding were made available. mleuv.brandenburg.de sees this as an important step towards effectively preventing and combating forest fires.

With these comprehensive measures and the commitment of the fire brigade, Brandenburg is well prepared for the forest fire season. Not only are contained fires fought quickly, but the population is also comprehensively protected.
