Protests against AfD: Citizens demand cycle path and clear rules in Jüterbog
The AfD's plans for a state party conference in the Wiesenhalle Jüterbog on October 11th and 12th are currently causing quite a stir in the region. So it's no wonder that numerous demos against the AfD have already been announced, because the population has had enough of such partisan events that they find stressful. How maz-online.de reported, the SPD and the citizens' movement BBJ are calling for clear rules to better regulate such party conferences. A decision on the new hall statutes is not expected until September at the earliest; the social committee will meet on August 19th.
The anticipation of the party conference is clouded by concerns about the AfD's greatly increased influence. At an AfD demonstration in Luckenwalde and Ludwigsfelde that took place on September 13th and 20th last year, some participants even hoisted an imperial flag. This shows that the protests against right-wing populism are becoming more important. THE LEFT announced that numerous counter-demonstrators were present there, which calls into question the AfD's support.
Safe cycle paths for everyone?
A recent death of a cyclist on the L80 near Luckenwalde has reignited the discussion about safe cycle paths. Citizen pressure is clear as residents have been calling for a cycle path along this busy route for years. Unfortunately, the capacities of the state road department are currently strained, so the construction of a cycle path cannot be given priority for the time being. Nevertheless, a bicycle demo is being organized between Zülichendorf and Frankenförde to draw attention to the problem. This will take place on July 19th and could send a strong signal for cyclist safety in the region.
In Oehna, the outdoor swimming pool is making positive headlines. It is currently the only outdoor swimming pool in Teltow-Fläming that is open seven days a week. Thanks to investments and good cooperation, Oehna could even achieve a new visitor record this year. Over 7,000 visitors have already been counted, which underlines the popularity of the facility.
Culture and integration in focus
On July 16th a culture and street food festival will take place in Luckenwalde's Nuthepark. Here, over 20 stalls will offer international dishes, accompanied by music and activities for children. This festival aims to promote integration and gives local clubs a platform to present their culture. Such events are important to strengthen the sense of community and to bring different cultures together.
But not everything in Luckenwalde is going smoothly. The Fläming Therme, which is now 25 years old, is in need of renovation. The ventilation system is too small, the slides are rusty and not insulated. The city of Luckenwalde is under pressure to present renovation plans and financing by 2027 in order to ensure the thermal spa's attractiveness.
Overall, it is clear that there are many topics on the agenda in the region - from political protest and citizen commitment to safe cycle paths to cultural highlights and challenges in infrastructure. At a time when the AfD is often at the center of controversy, it is important that citizens stand up together for their interests and actively participate in shaping their community.
