Power outage in Zossen: Technicians on duty after disruptions!

Today, June 30, 2025, the city of Zossen experienced power outages. According to news.de, disruptions in the power grid were reported at 2:45 p.m., which pose challenges for technicians at E.DIS Netz GmbH. In such cases, it is recommended to first check whether the problem only exists in your own home. In the event of major disruptions, those affected should visit the network operator's fault reporting page, as E.DIS offers a troubleshooting hotline.

Germany is one of the countries with one of the safest electricity grids in the world. In its current evaluation, the Federal Network Agency confirms that the average unplanned supply interruptions (SAIDI key figures) in recent years have been less than 13 minutes. The SAIDI value of 12.8 minutes comes from 2023, which shows it to be extremely low in an international comparison. In contrast, the USA, for example, is 78 minutes or Australia is 60 minutes, as cubeconcepts.de reports.

Technical challenges and maintenance needs

The E.DIS technicians in Zossen need to take action because there is currently a lack of information about routine maintenance. This could be a reason for the disruptions that occurred today. On average, each of the almost 40 million consumers in Germany has little to do with power outages, despite increasing demand due to the expansion of renewable energies and electromobility.

The Federal Ministry of Economics has recognized the need to continually expand the power grid and make it smarter to benefit from the energy transition. This is intended to efficiently cover the growing demand for electricity. In addition, the German Energy Agency (dena) is already working on innovative concepts to make the network more flexible and efficient, which is also not insignificant for the future stability of the energy supply.

Security of supply remains high

The supply interruptions recorded in the statistics are strictly regulated. According to bundesnetzagentur.de, only unplanned interruptions are included in the SAIDI value. The value serves as an indicator of the security of supply in the German electricity network, while constant challenges caused by the energy transition do not go unnoticed. However, the increase in registered disruptions to almost 160,000 in 2023 shows that a certain degree of adjustment is necessary.

Although Zossen is struggling with a power outage today, the general power situation in Germany remains stable. It can be seen that innovative approaches and the continuous improvement of the network, which are currently becoming more and more important, are crucial in order to be prepared for anything in the future.
