Webhaus in Jüterbog: Citizens demand new use for historic building!
The historic weaving house in Zinna Monastery, Jüterbog, faces an uncertain future after the city decided to sell the valuable building. How maz-online.de According to reports, the more than 200-year-old building between meadow and linden trees, near the B101, was once used as a factory in which weavers stretched fabrics and which later served as a central educational institution.
Built in 1776 by Jacob Friedrich Heyl, the Webhaus is an important piece of history. At the beginning of the 19th century, Johann Georg Sieburg took over the building, which quickly developed into an important workplace for spinners and weavers. But the heyday didn't last forever; In 1802 the factory had to close. In 1823, the employees purchased the building and it became part of a school system that imparted knowledge to many generations.
The condition of the web house
The building has currently been empty since 2022 after the long-time tenant gave up at the turn of the year. The condition is questionable: dirty windows, cobwebs and a dusty interior reminiscent of a museum are the current features of the once lively place. The last room still in use served as a polling station, most recently in the mayoral election before the next runoff election on July 20th.
In order to ensure sensible use, the city is planning a tender that runs until September 30th. What is needed is not only a viable concept, but also public accessibility. A minimum bid of 250,000 euros is set, and the city reserves the right to retransfer if the concept cannot be implemented.
Citizen opinions and visions
The residents have mixed opinions: While many associate fond memories of the building with visits to kindergarten and spending afternoons together in the café, there is also skepticism about the viability of a new café or daycare center. Many people want a return to the old stone oven in the beer garden. A place to linger and gather is the top priority.
The economic performance and references of potential buyers are crucial criteria, which is why the city places a particular focus on sustainable usage concepts. Gosolar highlights how important the sustainable renovation of historical buildings is for urban development and environmental protection. Innovative strategies are intended to help maintain cultural value while integrating modern standards.
It is generally expected that the new use of the Webhaus can meet both ecological requirements and historical aspects. Monument protection and contemporary architecture bring challenges but also opportunities. The community is encouraged to actively participate in the development of the usage concept.
Whether the Webhaus becomes a lively meeting place again or continues to decline now depends on the commitment of citizens and the ability of future investors to develop a concept that not only focuses on preserving the building, but also on putting it to good use. Hopes are high and expectations regarding the new use of the Webhaus remain ambivalent.
