Dream Worlds: New overnight stay in Brandenburg opens in July!

in Brandenburg an der Havel is happening: On July 1, 2025, the new overnight unit "Dream Worlds" opens in the daycare center "Living Worlds" at Gallberg 7. With this step, the city would like to offer urgently needed support for families with shift work, which are often dependent on care outside of regular opening times. City of Brandenburg reports that the new facility should mainly relieve parents who have a flexible need for care.

The overnight unit comprises five rooms and offers space for up to twelve children aged one to twelve years. The approximately 200 square meter residential unit is located within the existing daycare center and is therefore accessible. In the “living environments” daycare center, 80 places for the crèche, 70 kindergarten spaces and 54 daycare places are currently being offered. This ensures a comprehensive range of care for children of different age groups. The operator, Lebenshilfe Brandenburg - Potsdam e.V., emphasizes that the needs of children and the compatibility of family and work are in focus. Lebenshilfe Brandenburg explains that the concept not only relies on support, but also on exercise and healthy eating.

a holistic care concept

In the new overnight unit, attention is paid to a child -friendly process. This includes dinner together, games, evening hygiene and individual sleep rituals. These approaches should help the children feel good in the new environment. The familiarization phase is flexibly designed so that parents can accompany their children in the early days. This is intended to design the transition for the little guests as gently as possible.

Use of the overnight unit is only possible if the child already visits the “living environments” daycare. There are specific childcare times for this: Monday to Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Saturday until 9:00 a.m. In order to protect the child's well -being, the overnight stay is limited to a maximum of seven nights per month.

support for families

Mayor Steffen Scheller is convinced of the importance of this offer for single parents and families in shift work. "We have to do everything we can to promote the compatibility of family and work," he emphasizes when the project is presented. Brandenburg's equal opportunities officer Jeannette Horn also recognizes the social relevance of the project and refers to the challenges that many families, especially in systematic professions, are facing. The family portal informs that parents in Germany have had a legal right to a childcare place from the first birthday since August 2013, which has increased the demand for flexible care models.

Registration for the overnight stay is expected to be possible via the website of Lebenshilfe Brandenburg, which will enable parents to address their needs directly.
