Construction of the new Ringbahn bridge begins: construction site chaos threatens!
The construction work for the new Ringbahn bridge in Berlin is in the starting blocks! The new building will begin on October 20, 2025, as the project company Deges has now officially announced. Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) will be present at the groundbreaking ceremony. The bridge is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2027, and anticipation for the new transport connection is growing, as the old bridge was heavily loaded and had to be demolished in spring 2025 due to cracks in the supporting structure. Uckermark courier reports that the construction work will entail intensive restrictions for motorists, especially at the Funkturm motorway triangle from the end of October to the beginning of November.
The closures will begin on October 30th at 10:00 p.m. and are expected to end on November 3rd at 5:00 a.m. Road users are urgently asked to avoid the area as there will be no transfer from the A115 to the A100 in the direction of Hamburg. The exit towards Halenseestraße Ost/Messedamm will also no longer be possible from the A115. In addition, Halenseestrasse East will be closed from Rathenauplatz in the north direction and there will be no access to the motorway. The old bridge was a crucial part of the busy Funkturm motorway triangle, on which around 230,000 cars travel every day. The current diversions not only put a strain on motorists, but also on residents, who have had to experience traffic jams and increased traffic since the old bridge was closed. RBB24
Detours and traffic management
In order to ease the traffic jam problem, the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district has taken measures and closed some alternative streets to through traffic in order to prevent diversions into residential areas. These include, among others:
- Tegeler Weg / Brahestraße
- Tegeler Weg / Mindener Straße
- Einfahrten zum Klausener-Platz Kiez aus Sophie-Charlotten-Straße und Schloßstraße
- Kaiserdamm / Soorstraße
- Kaiserdamm / Meerscheidtstraße
The authorities are also working on long-term traffic management concepts to minimize the impact of the construction site on traffic. At the same time, the S-Bahn will be able to continue running under the bridge as there is currently no safety risk. However, there could be restrictions on the S-Bahn lines S41, S42 and S46 in the future. berlin.de
Road users will have to prepare for many changes in the coming period. The new construction of the Ringbahn Bridge will close an important gap in Berlin's transport network, which could not only relieve pressure on car traffic, but also on local public transport. We are working in consultation with the population and the traffic authorities to control the situation as best as possible.
