Dragon Boat Cup in Prenzlau: Students paddle for the coveted trophy!

On July 15, 2025, at the boathouse of the Prenzlau sports club Uckermark e. V. the third student dragon boat cup of the “Philipp Hackert” high school was held in Prenzlau. After a year-long break, the event was a real highlight in water sports in the region and brought students from grades seven to ten together to compete against each other in exciting competitions. A total of 16 classes, four from each grade, had been preparing for this day almost every day since mid-June.

Training content was varied and included strength, endurance, coordination and, above all, teamwork. Under the guidance of the experienced helmsmen Lothar Mertens and Harry Müller, the students learned how important harmonious interaction is in a dragon boat. Because dragon boating is not just about individual performance, but above all about paddling in time and working together as a team reports drachenboote.at.

From the heats to the grand finale

The competition consisted of several heats from which the best teams qualified for the finals. The tension rose as we finally reached the final, which was won by a capable 10th grade class. She was able to take home the coveted trophy. All participating students received certificates for their efforts, while the top three teams proudly received trophies. The event was generously supported by the Sparkasse, which acted as a sponsor, and was moderated by Silvio Grensing, an experienced member of the PSV.

“Dragon boating offers a wonderful team building experience that strengthens team spirit and promotes cohesion,” says a spokesman for teamgeist.com. It is a sporty, adventurous event where fun is the priority and learning to paddle to the rhythm is just as important as enjoying the sport together.

A look ahead to the next round

The participants in this year's Dragon Boat Cup agree: They are already looking forward to the next round of this exciting competition. The combination of competition, team spirit and shared experience on the water makes such an event an unforgettable experience for the students. It remains to be seen how the tradition of dragon boating will evolve in the region and what new talent will emerge at the next competition.
