Family of three firefighters: From trauma to serving others!
There will be a very special celebration in the small community of Baumgarten on July 19th. The fire department is celebrating its 100th anniversary, and already with a moving history behind it. But four years ago, the lives of firefighters Inka and Jessica Tiebach as well as their daughter Annina and her friend were tragically thrown off course. In a serious accident on the A11, they were hit by a car that was speeding without braking. The rescuers on site not only demonstrated their skills, but also strengthened the family's belief that they should continue to actively participate in the fire department. Their passion and commitment to the fire service is stronger today than ever.
Inka Tiebach, who joined the local fire department 17 years ago, has worked her way up to fire chief over the years. Her wife and daughter Annina also regularly take part in missions. Annina also plans to start training in the rescue service. All of this shows how deeply rooted fire service work is in the family, despite the painful experiences of the past. Inka Tiebach hopes that the siren will remain silent on the anniversary day. But should it be used, she is ready.
Anniversary celebrations
The festival begins on July 19th at 1 p.m. with a roll call at the depot. A highlight will be a church service led by Rainer Krause, followed by a parade of the surrounding weirs at 3 p.m. A motorcade with fire engines from across the official area will also enrich the celebrations. In the evening, the Schalmeienkapelle from Mühlhof will provide musical entertainment, followed by live music from 7 p.m. The physical well-being of visitors is also taken care of: stalls with food and drinks invite you to feast, and the proceeds from the cake bazaar benefit the Uckermark Hospice Association.
The weather forecast promises lots of sunshine, which will make the celebration even sweeter. Of course everyone wants to be there to honor the achievements and tireless efforts of the fire department!
Fire department in Garbsen
Things are similarly celebratory in Garbsen: the fire department there celebrated its 100th anniversary. Events were held from Friday to Sunday to honor the fire brigade's voluntary service. The highlights included a festive reception with many invited guests, the ceremonial handover of two new fire engines and a large parade through Altgarbsen, which attracted numerous visitors despite the drizzle. Mayor Claudio Provenzano and local fire chief Thomas Cremer thanked the firefighters for their tireless efforts and valuable work in the community.
Both events are not only celebrations, but also signs of appreciation for the services of the emergency services. The celebration culture in both cities shows how important support through volunteer work is and that the traditions of the fire department are not only rooted in the past, but are also kept alive in the present.
The history of the fire department goes back to Roman times, when the first fire department was founded in 21 BC. was founded with 600 slaves. Over the centuries, fire departments have developed further, and many traditions that still exist today are closely related to the historical development of fire and disaster control, which was also significantly influenced in Germany. Over 100 years of fire service work in Baumgarten and Garbsen impressively show how deeply the roots of volunteering are anchored in society and what importance they have for the community.
