Boitzenburg fire brigade vehicle accident: TLF tips over and threatens to leak
On Monday morning, a traffic accident shook the community of Boitzenburger Land when the tank fire engine (TLF) belonging to the Boitzenburg Volunteer Fire Department had an accident. The firefighters were immediately alerted to provide quick assistance, but the situation turned out to be critical. According to Nordkurier, the TLF was lying across the street and had 4,800 liters of water on board. Fortunately, the vehicle's engineer was injured, but according to his statement, he was doing well under the circumstances. He was then treated by emergency doctors and paramedics and transported to the hospital.
The firefighters on site who were alerted were faced with another challenge: foam was leaking from the overturned vehicle, which threatened to end up in the ditch. To prevent pollution, rescuers quickly built a dam with binders. Speaking of environmental protection – the TLF holds 700 liters of foam concentrate, which is usually used in fires. The Environmental Protection Agency was also called in to assess the situation; a local layer of earth was removed due to the dangerous situation.
Cause of accident and vehicle damage
The causes of the accident are still unclear. The police are currently investigating whether there are technical defects or human error. In order to defuse the situation, a towing company was called in to recover the damaged TLF. The local road remained closed to all traffic during the operation. Therefore, the situation for the residents is anything but optimal.
It is also worrying that the accident vehicle was not only badly damaged, but there is currently only one other TLF available in the Wichmannsdorf volunteer fire department in the municipality of Boitzenburger Land. The TLF was originally supposed to be transported to Templin for a regular inspection, but the community is now very concerned about the future.
Reactions from the community
Miriam Bade, the deputy mayor and also a firefighter, said that she would inform the insurance company immediately and plan the next steps. She emphasizes the importance of a quick response to this unexpected situation. The community is now looking at further developments with questions and hopes that the circumstances will improve soon.
Similar incidents have been reported repeatedly in the past. An example that has caused a stir in recent years is the accident involving the Genthin fire department's tank fire engine (TLF), which crashed while on a mission to a forest fire. There were also three firefighters in the vehicle there, who fortunately escaped with minor injuries, but the vehicle is a total loss, as Feuerwehr Magazin reports.
Once again it becomes clear how dangerous the operation can normally be for firefighters, and the case in Boitzenburg makes this clear. The fire brigade is often on the front line, and yet they still manage to achieve extraordinary performance even in times of crisis. Hang in there, Boitzenburg fire department! You have our fullest support.
