Spa fee in Lychen increases – this is how tourists and the city benefit!
A lot is happening in Lychen's tourism industry! The city council decided on Monday to increase the spa fees for overnight guests from 2026. This adjustment stipulates that young people aged 14 and over will be liable to pay contributions in the future. This means that accommodation costs rise to 2 euros per night in high season and 1.50 euros per night in low season. The annual fee will also be increased and will then amount to 50 euros. With this measure, the city expects additional income of around 50,000 euros per year.
Around 100,000 guests stay overnight in the picturesque city every year. The spa fee, which is used for the maintenance and expansion of the tourist infrastructure as well as for events and discounted bus tickets, already proved to be a cash cow in 2024, as the income of around 158,000 euros exceeded the planning of 150,000 euros. From January 2026, this amount could increase to 200,000 euros as long as the number of overnight stays remains stable.
Expansion of the offer through new laws
As a result of these changes, the new municipal tax law also comes into play, which is intended to have a positive impact on tourism in Brandenburg. It was decided to adapt the spa fees effective from 2026 to the rates applicable in Templin. Templin also offers free city bus transport for spa card holders, which is certainly an additional attractiveness for the region. This regulation aims to create a uniform tax system in the common travel areas and neighboring areas in order to facilitate tourism planning. This could strengthen Lychen's ability to achieve financial stability in the long term.
In addition, TMB Tourismus-Marketing Brandenburg GmbH commissioned B & P Management- und Kommunalberatung GmbH to create a sample calculation for the implementation of the amended Municipal Taxes Act. This is intended not only to help communities improve the tourism infrastructure, but also to create additional offers for day tourists, which can expand the communities' financial resources.
Strengthening the tourism infrastructure
The income from the increased spa fees should flow into various projects. This includes, among other things, the maintenance of cycling and hiking trails as well as the tourist development of the former GPG site on the city lake. Treasurer Nadine Weidner has already emphasized the urgent need to increase income in order to meet the increased costs and to be able to implement the planned projects.
Landlords and providers also contribute to financial responsibility by taking care of billing and payment of contributions. There are exemptions from the obligation to pay contributions for children and young people up to the age of 14, severely disabled people and groups of students of five or more in holiday camps or country school homes.
With good reason one can say: Lychens Tourism has the power to emerge stronger from these changes and to further establish itself as an attractive travel destination.
