Long-time THW boss Ilona Köster says goodbye to Prenzlau

Uckermark, Deutschland - In Prenzlau, the time for changes has come: Ilona Köster, the long-time head of the THW local association, has announced that it can withdraw from the active management. After almost 25 years of committed cooperation, including 21 years as a local representative, she will take on a new role as a specialist advisor for fire and disaster protection in the district. The farewell to this outstanding personality was duly celebrated.

At a farewell event in the auditorium of the Grabow School, there was a lot of praise and recognition for Köster. Among the speakers was Sebastian Gold, the state representative for Berlin, Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt, who compared the THW local associations with medium-sized companies. Köster himself was honored as the "mother of the local association", known for her loyalty, fairness, humor and care. In total, she did an incredible 17,816.60 hours of voluntary work for the THW and was awarded the honor in silver for her services.

new face at the top

With the adoption of Ilona Köster, her successor was also presented: Dirk Wagner, who has been working in the Prenzlauer Ortsverband for three years and was recently responsible for civil protection in the district office of the district. An important decision for the future of the local association, which is flanked by Andreas Koch as Wagner's deputy. These changes symbolically stand for change and adaptation to new challenges that volunteering at THW requires.

The Technical Relief Agency (THW) has established itself as a fundamental return in emergency situations over the years. From fallen trees to floods to power failures - the volunteers of the THW are always on hand. Everyone can participate, because no prior knowledge is required. The training in the THW conveys knowledge about civil and disaster protection and is a good way to develop personally and complete certified courses. More information is available on the official website of the THW: Thw.

a network of help

In addition to the THW, there are many organizations in Germany that work for the support of people in need. These include the German Red Cross, the German Fire Brigade Association and many others. Each of these organizations contributes to help being provided, be it in Germany or internationally. The cohesion of these organizations is an important pillar of our social life.
