A major fire caused a stir on July 7, 2025 in the forest area between Neukünkendorf and Herzsprung in Angermünde. The fire department was alerted around 5 a.m. after several callers reported heavy smoke in the area of the B158. The fire spread over an area of around 1,500 to 3,600 square meters and presented the emergency services with a challenge. According to Nordkurier and moz.de around 30 firefighters from the Angermünde fire department and the firefighting groups from Herzsprung, Schmargendorf and Greiffenberg were deployed to quickly bring the fire under control. But clearing the forest floor proved difficult.
The police and forestry authorities were also on site and began investigating the cause of the fire. It is currently unclear whether negligence or natural circumstances were responsible for the fire. Estimates of the amount of damage are in the five-figure range, and investigators are also contacting the forest owner to clarify further details.
Community support
Particularly noteworthy is the support the fire department received from local farmers during the operation. Michael Böhling provided a water barrel, and an agricultural company from Lüdersdorf also offered a 10,000 liter water barrel. A total of around 50,000 liters of water from the lake in Neukünkendorf were used to control the fire.
