Death and hope at the weekly market: Initiative Last Aid Mobil” enthusiastic!
A very special event took place in the charming Uckermark during the 2025 hospice week. Under the motto "Last aid mobile", a motorhome from the Uckermärkische Hospizverein e.V. At the market in Prenzlau, not only informative discussions were held, but also a wheelchair training was offered. The coordinator Steffi Scholer experienced the challenges of everyday wheelchairs up close. The city, which is mainly designed for pedestrians, turned out to be quite demanding with its small paving grooves.
The initiative actively called death into people's consciousness. Thomas Tiede, coordinator of the hospice service, found out about various types of wheelchairs as part of the event. A survey result brought surprising insights: the majority of respondents want to die in their own home, followed by hospice, nursing homes and hospitals. The goal of the initiative is to present death as a less sad and distant topic. At events it was made possible for visitors to relax in music, conversations and hand massages.
last aid courses - regain knowledge
A central component of the initiative is the "last aid" courses that offer support for relatives of dying people. These courses aim to regain the knowledge of the end of death, which is often lost in our fast -moving world. The courses convey basic knowledge and simple steps that are of great importance in family and neighborly environment. According to the page lasthilfe.info , the donation to die is particularly important to enable them to say goodbye.
The "last help" courses are divided into different modules, which give the participants a comprehensive understanding of the Situation of dying people. Among other things, the normal dying is discussed, the importance of a living will is discussed and practical help to relieve suffering. This content is not only for direct accompaniment, but also for your own mental peace of invaluable value.
course details and accessibility
Another course is planned for October 22, 2024, which is to take place online via Zoom. With a maximum of 15 participants, it offers an intimate atmosphere and the opportunity to clarify individual questions. Registration takes place very easily by email to fobi@stiftung-palliativ-zuhaus.de . Participation is free of charge, but donations for covering the costs are welcome, although a donation account of the Palliative Foundation is happy to provide at home.
The aim of tabooing the initiative is very much appreciated by the participants. Open communication about dying and farewell is becoming more and more important - not only for the relatives, but also for those affected themselves. It is time to give room to death in our society and to accept it as part of life. Event parts such as hand massages and relaxing offers create a room in which questions can be asked and worried. The hospice week 2025 was an invitation to cooperate and open discussions about what many often suppress.
