Forest fire alarm: Brandenburg and Saxony in operational mode!
The forest fire season has developed dramatically this year. There are currently over 200 forest fires registered in Brandenburg, which already exceeds the total number from last year. The situation is particularly tense on the border with Saxony, where emergency services are working at high pressure to bring the flames under control. How ZDF today Reportedly, around 1,000 firefighters and helpers are on duty, including 600 in Saxony and 650 in Brandenburg.
A difficult area of operation is the Gohrischheide in Saxony, where flames flare up again and again. Despite the controlled situation, there are always concerns about increasing winds and rising temperatures. Operations manager Martin Neumann has warned the population that the risk of fire in the region remains high. The smell of fire has also been noticeable in Berlin for several days, which shows how close the events are to the state capital.
Critical situation in Brandenburg
The fire department has distributed warnings via the Nina and Mowas apps to inform the population. A total of around ten active forest fires are currently reported in Brandenburg, five of which are raging in Lusatia. The situation is further complicated by the weather conditions, which increase the risk of fire. Interior Minister René Wilke appeals to citizens to handle fire responsibly in order to prevent further fires.

- Rund zehn aktive Feuer in Brandenburg, darunter fünf in der Lausitz
- Zahl der Einsatzkräfte über 1.000 (600 in Sachsen, 650 in Brandenburg)

Firefighters are working non-stop to prevent the fires from spreading to populated areas and the situation remains critical.
The forest as a valuable asset
Forests in Germany, with their different functions as useful, protective and recreational areas, are a valuable asset. The protection and preservation of these areas is becoming increasingly important, especially in densely populated areas such as Brandenburg. It is important to reduce both the number and the spread of fires in the future. As the Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food reports, data on forest fires has been collected since the 1970s in order to be able to carry out forecasts and risk analyses.
Despite the current crisis, there is great hope that the emergency services, together with the population and the right measures, will be able to combat the fire risk in the long term. Dealing with fire responsibly and being well prepared are the be-all and end-all here. So let's stay vigilant and support the firefighters who do everything they can every day to protect our forests.
