Chaos in the Gaza Strip: Aid distribution becomes a storm!
A foundation supported by Israel and the USA, the Gaza Humanitrian Foundation (GHF), has started the distribution of urgently needed relief goods to the Palestinians in the Gaza strip. This happens after months of blockades have come to an end and the situation in the Gaza Strip remains strongly tense after more than a year and a half. According to reports, however, there were chaotic scenes when numerous Palestinians stormed a new distribution center in the southern Gaza Strip, which led to a withdrawal of the employees of a US company who works there. Shots from Israeli helicopters were made during the incident, but there were no reports on injuries. The Israeli army did not comment on the incidents. The GHF recently delivered truck loads with food and other humanitarian aid goods to various distribution locations, which are referred to as "safe distribution points", but the exact locations and quantities were not published. The foundation plans to reach a million Palestinians by the end of the week, which corresponds to about half of the population in the Gaza Strip
The Hamas Interior Ministry called the residents of the Gaza Strip to boycott the new GHF distribution mechanism. With this strategy, Israel pursues the goal of reaching traditional aid organizations in order to prevent Hamas from benefiting from the relief goods. However, UN representatives have stated that Israel has not presented any evidence of the claims that underpin the need for these measures. The GHF is criticized by aid organizations, since the new ways to the distribution centers operated by US security companies are an insurmountable challenge, especially for old and sick people. In addition, the GHF could also have had logistical difficulties, which led to delays when the distribution started.
understanding of the situation and further procedure
The humanitarian emergency in the Gaza strip is now alarming: people suffer from extreme conditions, increased by the weekly blockages of auxiliary goods. Critics, including representatives of the United Nations, warn that the new distribution system is not only inadequate, but also potentially dangerous because many people are forced to cover long routes to war areas. Another fraction of the problem is Jake Wood's resignation, the head of the GHF, who has submitted his resignation, while John Acree temporarily takes over the management. Wood expressed serious concerns about compliance with humanitarian principles under the given circumstances.
In the middle of these tensions, Israel has continued to expand its military offensive in the Gaza Strip. The population in the south, especially in the big cities of Chan Junis, Rafah and neighboring areas, was asked to flee. The place al-Mawasi, which is considered the “humanitarian protection zone”, is excluded from the evacuation. These measures are justified by Israel in response to persistent rocket shots from the affected areas.
